Like you, I'm eagerly awaiting news about season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen! After the cliffhanger at the end of season 2, I found it very difficult to wait. Like many fans around the world, I was captivated by the series with its breathtaking fights and compelling plot.
I can't wait to find out what happens next in Jujutsu Kaisen, as it promises even more surprises and twists! So when will we be able to dive into the new adventures for Yuji Itadori and his companions Let's take a look at what we know so far.
No official date announced yet
To date, no release date has been set, but it has been confirmed that the Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 has been in production for several months. As the project is already underway, we just have to be patient, as we shouldn't have to wait years for a sequel. However, it's best not to expect a release this year.
Let's not forget all the personnel changes between season 1 and season 2. Despite the controversies surrounding the previous season, the Studio Mappa has confirmed the production of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3. However, it should be noted that the studio is also responsible for animating other successful series such as Season 2 of Chainsaw Man.
Even though no release date has been set, we can reasonably expect a release around the beginning of 2025based on the production pace of previous seasons. In the meantime, we can console ourselves with this little teaser produced by Toho Animation, which confirms that season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen is in production:
What to expect from Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3?
Spoiler alert! If you haven't seen the end of season 2 yet, I advise you not to read any further.
As a reminder, season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen ended on an intense cliffhanger with the invasion of Shibuya by the curses and the death of several important characters. There is also Yuta Okkotsu's statement to Yuji Itadori, which could introduce season 3. The latter should therefore tackle “The Execution of Yuji” (chapters 137 to 143) and “Preparing for the hunt” (chapters 144 to 160) of the manga.
These chapters introduce the arc of “The Deadly Chase” in which exorcists embark on a hunt for higher-level curses. It follows the events that take place between chapters 161 and 221 of the manga. Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen should therefore cover three arcs (two short arcs and one long arc). As such, it is highly likely that the number of episodes will be similar to the first two seasons:
- Season 1: 24 episodes
- Season 2: 23 episodes
As for the plot, it naturally follows the events of the Shibuya drama arc and will revolve around a macabre game in which the summoned exorcists must kill each other. But to avoid spoilers for those who don't read the manga, I'll stop there.
Return of old characters and appearance of new ones
While production of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is underway, we are sure to see the return of the characters who survived the previous season. Even though the fate of some of them is still unknown, let's hope that some of the secondary characters will stand out in this new season.
While we await the return of our favorite exorcists, new characters are also expected to make their appearance, including the members of the Kamo clan and the "wizards with reverse technology." I can't wait to discover their powers and their interactions with our heroes because they've already been teased a little in previous seasons.
Which platform to watch the third season on?
Having aired the first seasons and the movie Jujutsu Kaisen Zero starring Yuto Okkotsu, it is more likely that the third season will also be aired on Crunchyroll even without a release date. While waiting to find out more, fans can always console themselves by rereading the manga, which is still being published in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine or by purchasing the volumes.
Otherwise, do as I did and rewatch the first two seasons of the anime, which are still available on Crunchyroll. A little bonus: Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 has been re-released on Blu-Ray with previously unseen scenes.
