Like you, I'm eagerly awaiting news of Jujutsu Kaisen season 3! After the cliffhanger at the end of season 2, I found it very hard to stay on the edge of my seat. Like many fans around the world, the series captivated me with its breathtaking battles and captivating plot.
I can't wait to discover the Jujutsu Kaisen sequel, as it promises even more surprises and twists! So when can we dive into new adventures for Yuji Itadori and his companions ? Let's take a look at what we know so far.
No official date announced yet
No release date has yet been set, but it has been confirmed that the Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 has been in production for several months. Since the project is already underway, we'll just have to be patient, as we shouldn't have to wait years for a sequel. However, it's best not to hope for a release this year.
Let's not forget all the changes in personnel between season 1 and season 2. Despite the controversy surrounding the previous season, the Studio Mappa has confirmed the direction of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3. However, it should not be forgotten that the studio is also responsible for the animation of other successful series, such as Chainsaw Man Season 2.
Although no release date has yet been set, we can reasonably assume that expect a release around early 2025based on the production pace of previous seasons. In the meantime, we can console ourselves with this little teaser produced by Toho Animation, which confirms that season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen is in production:
What can we expect from Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3?
Spoiler alert! If you haven't yet seen the end of season 2, I'd advise you not to read on.
As a reminder, season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen ended on an intense cliffhanger with the invasion of Shibuya by the plagues and the death of several important characters. There's also Yuta Okkotsu's statement about Yuji Itadori, which could introduce season 3. The latter should therefore tackle "Yuji's Execution (chapters 137 to 143) and "Preparing for the hunt (chapters 144 to 160) of the manga.
These chapters introduce the "The Deadly Hunt in which the exorcists embark on a hunt for higher-level plagues. It follows the events that take place between chapters 161 and 221 of the manga. Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen should therefore cover 3 arcs (two short arcs and one long arc). It's quite possible that the number of episodes will be close to that of the first two seasons:
- Season 1: 24 episodes
- Season 2: 23 episodes
As for the plot, it naturally follows the events of the Shibuya drama arc and revolves around a macabre game, in which the summoned exorcists must kill each other. But to avoid spoiling those who don't read the manga, I'll stop here.
Return of old characters and appearance of new ones
While production of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is underway, we're sure to see again the characters who survived the previous season. Even if the fate of some of them is still unknown, let's hope that some of the secondary characters will stand out in this new season.
While we await the return of our favorite exorcists, new characters are also expected to make their appearance, including the members of the Kamo clan and the "reverse-technology wizards". I can't wait to discover their powers and their interactions with our heroes, because they've already been teased a bit in previous seasons.
Which platform to watch the third season on?
Having broadcast the first seasons and the Jujutsu Kaisen Zero movie starring Yuto Okkotsu, it's more likely that the third season will also be broadcast on Crunchyroll even without a release date. In the meantime, fans can console themselves by re-reading the manga, which is still being published in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine or by purchasing the volumes.
If not, do as I did and dive back into the first two seasons of the anime, which are still available on Crunchyroll. A little bonus: Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 has been re-released on Blu-Ray with previously unseen scenes.
