The mage-barons of Narbuk are known to engage in various unsavory practices, with some even daring to dabble in necromancy and other dark arts. Although such practices are never meant to be flaunted in public, the sad truth is that their power and wealth most often protect the nobility from any repercussions.
And the advantages of using certain exotic and powerful forms of magic are undeniable. At the beginning of King Tayba's reign, a particular fad seemed to have taken hold of the city. Many barons sought to employ undead servants to guard their treasures and coffers, but not just any undead servants—that would be too trivial and cliché—they wanted to see large Ogryn corpses reanimated, reinforced by alchemy, and adorned with decorative armor that contrasted so well with their hideous appearance.
No one can say for sure who started this trend, but it quickly spread, and soon almost every self-respecting mage baron had a small cohort of these monstrosities at their beck and call. Of course, these creatures are not without their flaws.
Just like living Ogryns, their reanimated iterations are well known for their rancid smell and lack of grace. But what they lack in appearance, these Corpulent Corpses make up for with their unshakeable strength of character. If it's difficult to kill an Ogryn, one can only imagine how difficult it is to kill an Ogryn that is already dead.
