Last October 30th, The Pokemon Company has unveiled a new game: Pokémon Pocketthe mobile version of the famous trading card game. A perfect opportunity for Pokémon fans to relive the excitement of battles, but on their smartphones.
Pokémon Pocket, a new way to collect your favorite cards
Available on iOS and Android, Pokémon Pocket offers a whole new experience in collecting Pokémon CGC cards. At least, that's what the game's creators claim. That's right, The Pokemon Company explains what he wants to do with this game:a new Pokémon TCG card collecting experience in an innovative digital format.
But what's the concept behind this new game? Well, it's very simple. All you have to do is open decks of cards and complete a Cartodex. The Cartodex contains 226 different cards in all.
Start your adventure smoothly with free boosters
Every day, you can open two free boosters (one every 12 hours). Each booster contains five cards, some of which are rare and valuable.
What should delight players are the card illustrations. In fact, there'll be shine and animation. There are also the old illustrations from the first cards. But also new illustrations.
From your very first launch, you can open a few boosters to get you off to a good start. The first two, which are fixed, guarantee an EX card and an Alternative card. You can choose between three boosters:
- Pikachu booster : Arcanin EX and Carapuce ALT ;
- Booster Dracaufeu : Noadkoko EX and Salamèche ALT ;
- Booster Mewtwo: Ossatueur EX and Bulbizarre ALT.
Pokémon Pocket JCC really different from Pokémon Live?
If you're familiar with the Pokémon universe, you're probably familiar with JCC Pokémon Live. In fact, the application has already been downloaded more than five million times. But what's the difference between this game and Pokémon Pocket ? Well, it's quite simple: the two differ in their approach to card collecting.
While Live allows you to import your physical cards via codes, Pocket focuses on an entirely digital experience. But that's not all. In fact, Pokémon Live is a free game, but to collect cards and compete with other trainers, you need to buy real boosters. Pokémon Pocket for its part, relies more on a free approach to its application.
What is the business model for Pokémon Pocket?
While it's possible to play Pokémon Pocket without spending any money whatsoever, there is still a paid game. After all, you've got to make money somewhere. A Premium Pass is available for 9.99 euros a month. This allows you to open an additional booster every day.

With this pass, it is also possible to access special maps or complete missions to obtain Pokémon. A virtual currency has also been introduced. For a few euros, you can buy Pokés Lingots. These will enable you to buy more boosters or reduce the time between opening free boosters.
