What is the use of potions of weakness on Minecraft?
In Minecraft, weakness potions are mainly used to treat a zombie villager. But this only applies if the zombie is within range for the potion's effect to take effect.
The Minecraft weakness potions also allow you to reduce an opponent's strength in a scrum to destabilize him. The potion's effect reduces melee attacks by 4 damage points (equivalent to 2 hearts).
⚠️ However, this effect only applies to melee attacks.
The Wither, the Ender Dragon, and passive mobs are immune to it.
How do you cure a zombie villager?
That’s the number one reason to brew this potion in Minecraft!
Here's how to do it in 4 steps:
- Lock the zombie villager in a safe place (he must not escape or touch you).
- Throw a single-use weakness potion (splash) at him.
- Give him a non-magical golden apple right away.
- Wait a few minutes: he'll turn back into a normal villager (3 to 5 minutes in the Java Edition, about 1 minute and 40 seconds in the Bedrock Edition).
⚠️ Keep the zombie villager safe during the transformation. The healing only fails if he dies; regular damage does not cancel it.
Important : The potion alone won't heal you. You need the single-use version plus the golden apple.

How to make a weakness potion on Minecraft?
To make a Classic Weakness Potion In Minecraft, you need 4 things:
- ✅ One still (brewing stand)
- ✅ From Blaze powder (the fuel that powers the still)
- ✅ One fermented spider eye
- ✅ One water vial
💧 No water vial? First, craft vials by placing 3 glasses in a V-shape on the crafting table (one in the top left, one in the top right, and one in the center) → you’ll get 3 vials. Fill one by right-clicking on water.
👌 Good to know: It’s the only potion that doesn’t require a Nether Wart. That makes it one of the easiest to make!
Brew the potion of weakness
- Place some Blaze Powder in the fuel slot (at the top left of the still).
- Place your water bottle in a lower slot.
- Place the fermented spider eye in the top slot.
- Wait until the brewing cycle is complete (about 20 seconds).
You can upgrade your potion!
Once you've obtained your basic weakness potion, you can upgrade it to a more powerful version.

Does it take a magical golden apple to cure the zombie villager?
No, definitely not! You need a regular golden apple (not enchanted).
The Enchanted Golden Apple doesn't work for healing.
Also, make sure to keep the zombie villager safe during the transformation: the healing will only fail if he dies.
Where can I find a Potion of Weakness without brewing it myself?
There are several places where you can buy it ready-made, without needing a still:
- In the still of the the basement of each igloo.
- In the Bedrock edition of Minecraft, the cauldron from a marsh hut contains a random number of potions (1 to 2), with a 10% chance that one of them is a weakness potion.
- In the test chambers, ...you can find them in the loot, and dispensers sometimes drop them (either as single-use or persistent versions).
