History of Brago d'Acier
Before the advent of the Kingdom of Kaerok, before the High Elves of Aravia recovered from their disastrous civil war, the Orcs were a force to be reckoned with. Once slaves of the Shadow, they freed themselves from Siroth's yoke with the help of the Arbiter and scattered across all continents.
Resilient, belligerent, and nomadic, they were difficult neighbors at best, but the real danger became apparent when leaders rose among the Orcs. Leaders strong enough to unite the divided tribes. Leaders like Iron Brago.
The youngest son of a respected chief, Brago had never hoped to take his father's place as head of the tribe. Fortunately, his ancestors had blessed him with the strength of a mountain and the temperament of a boar. These qualities allowed Brago to easily embrace his destiny as a warrior with all the wild enthusiasm expected of an orc.
But where Brago excelled, his brothers were anything but. They watched with jealousy as their brother's reputation grew with every defeated enemy, every raid rich in slaves and booty, and feared that the others would regard Brago as the only worthy heir.
The brothers could not allow such a thing to happen, even if it meant murdering their relatives. First, they poisoned their elderly father before he could name a successor. Then, they pretended to mourn as any good son would, inviting Brago to join them for the funeral feast as an equal.
Tradition forbade the spilling of blood in front of honored dead, so all participants had to be unarmed. In the middle of the feast, the brothers revealed their true nature and drew the swords they had concealed earlier, striking their youngest brother with the intent to kill him while he was unarmed.
The confrontation was brutal and cost Brago an eye, but his ferocity in the face of betrayal was such that he fought and killed his most vile brothers with his bare hands. News of the massacre spread quickly, and the tribe was unanimous in supporting Brago's right to take his father's place.
They recognized the wrongs done to him and shared a fearful respect for a warrior of such renown—a virtue that every Orc wishes to see in its leader. Brago did not disappoint. He waged a brutal campaign against neighboring tribes and gathered the survivors under his banner.
Within a decade, a horde of six thousand orc warriors stood ready to satisfy their leader's whims. Many attempted to defeat the legendary orc chieftain in battle, while others sought to assassinate him. None survived their attempts, and the infamy of Brago Iron spread far and wide.
Desperate alliances between barbarian clans and several elven hosts attempted to drive Brago's army back into the Krokhan Desert, but he crushed them all one by one in battle. The path to the capital of Aravia was open, and for the first time in generations, the jewel of the elven kingdom was in danger of being sacked by the savage hordes from the east.
The salvation of the High Elves took a rather unexpected form. A messenger arrived at Brago's camp when he was only a week's march from the city, and the news he brought was terrible: groups of raiders from the vile cult of the Returned Knights were attacking the orc tribes in the Deadlands.
There were no longer enough warriors to defend the young and the old, and so the death cultists and their undead minions rampaged through the villages, killing and enslaving at will. Enraged, Iron Brago ordered the entire horde to turn back and hurry home to face this new threat.
There are no written accounts of what happened, but orcish sagas tell of a war that engulfed the eastern continent. According to these tales, Brago led his army to the very heart of the Stormwind Wastes, swept away hordes of undead, and personally defeated a powerful vampire lord in single combat.
Whether these tales are exaggerated or not, one thing is certain: Iron Brago never returned from this campaign, and none of his surviving warriors know what happened to him. However, some reports mention a one-eyed orc warrior, clad in grotesque armor, who travels in the company of champions who fought for the Arbiter.
Could it be that the scourge of the Eastern Lands was chosen to serve Lumaya? Only the Arbiter knows, but stranger alliances must be forged to defend Teleria.
