Commonly known as Frostskins, these ice trolls live in the snow-covered mountains and ice-covered plains of Teleri North. However, as the Shadow grows and its corruption spreads across the land, many are forced to abandon their cavernous homes and join their kin to form tribes or roaming bands, or seek to survive on their own.
The magic that flows through their veins has visible effects, allowing frost skins to cool everything they touch, and often turn their enemies to ice. But they are also able to use this same magic to heal their wounds, if they so choose, even if the process is as slow as the changing of the seasons in their frozen homeland.
Many creatures inhabit the harsh Arctic expanses of northern Telerien, both curious and dangerous. It is not surprising that trolls, as resilient and stubborn as they are, have also carved out a small place for themselves in these inhospitable lands.
While other inhabitants of Teleria often had to rely on their ingenuity and craftsmanship to survive the perpetual cold, their natural affinity for magic allowed the trolls to adapt in a much more radical way, much like their cousins living in the mountains and swamps of the south. Rather than fighting the cold, these trolls literally embraced it.
Crystals of pure ice protrude from their skin, forming a tough natural armor. Their skin is as cold as ice to the touch and, when the troll makes a conscious effort to channel his inner magics, this can be enough to encase even large creatures in chains of ice.
Frostskins often use this innate ability to hunt or defend themselves against daring adventurers who cross their path. Curiously, these trolls are also able to channel their power to stem bleeding wounds, at the cost of numbing the limbs of those they help in this way, as they never completely lose their icy touch.
The numerous caves and burrows scattered across the landscape provide easy shelter for frost skins. They hide there and gorge themselves, safe from the gaze of their rivals and predators large enough to pose a real threat.
It is said that frost skins, like other trolls, are naturally attracted to magical objects and often seek to accumulate arcane trinkets in their lairs. Many champions venture into the polar deserts in hopes of recovering a valuable item. And many find themselves facing enraged frost skins, who protect their "collections" with the ferocity of a dragon.
