History of Hexia
Once a beautiful and noble lady of Kaerok, Hexia feared only the relentless march of time. Knowing full well that her beauty would fade and decay with age, she sought to prolong her youth through dark and terrible rituals. Some say she used the blood of young peasant girls in hopes of preserving her body, others that she sacrificed anything and anyone, casting their souls into Siroth's embrace in exchange for magical secrets and eternal youth.
Her cruelty was such that the people of her fiefdom revolted. The castle was stormed. Hexia herself was dragged to a forest beyond the city walls and hanged from an old oak tree. Legend has it that, with her dying breath, the infamous witch cursed her former subjects and swore revenge.
But even death was not the end for her, for the blood rituals practiced by Hexia allowed her spirit to remain, to possess her dead body once more and exact a terrible price from the townspeople who had dared to take everything she had. Whether this was true or not, the castle and the town surrounding it were ravaged by the plague less than a month after Hexia's execution and burned to the ground to prevent the disease from spreading.
Even today, the charred ruins that stand atop a barren hill are considered a disaster zone by the locals. Some brave adventurers dare to venture into the catacombs of the ruined castle in search of the witch's riches. The few who return unharmed speak in hushed tones, warning anyone who will listen that a cruel banshee jealously guards her former domain.
