History of Hexia

Autrefois belle et noble dame de Kaerok, Hexia n’aurait craint que l’implacable marche du temps. Sachant pertinemment que sa beauté s’estompera et se décomposera avec l’âge, elle a cherché à prolonger sa jeunesse par de sombres et terribles rituels. Certains disent qu’elle utilisait le sang de jeunes paysannes dans l’espoir de préserver son corps, d’autres qu’elle sacrifiait tout et n’importe qui, jetant leurs âmes dans l’étreinte de Siroth en échange de secrets magiques et d’une jeunesse éternelle.

Sa cruauté était telle que le peuple de son fief s’est révolté. Le château fut pris d’assaut. Hexia elle-même fut traînée dans une forêt au-delà des murs de la ville et pendue à un vieux chêne. La légende raconte que, dans son dernier souffle, l’infâme sorcière maudit ses anciens sujets et jure de se venger.

Mais même la mort n’était pas sa fin, car les rituels sanguins pratiqués par Hexia permettaient à son esprit de rester, de posséder à nouveau son corps mort et d’imposer un prix horrible aux habitants de la ville qui avaient osé lui prendre tout ce qu’elle avait. Que ce soit vrai ou non, le château et la ville qui l’entoure ont été dévastés par la peste moins d’un mois après l’exécution d’Hexia et réduits en cendres pour empêcher la maladie de se propager.

Aujourd’hui encore, les ruines calcinées qui trônent sur une colline aride sont considérées comme un lieu sinistré par les habitants. Certains aventuriers courageux osent s’aventurer dans les catacombes du château en ruines à la recherche des richesses de la sorcière. Les rares qui reviennent sains et saufs parlent à voix basse, avertissant tous ceux qui veulent bien l’entendre qu’une cruelle banshee garde jalousement son ancien domaine.
