Story of Lanakis the Chosen One
The threads of fate are woven, twisted, and intertwined in ways that no mortal mind can hope to fully comprehend. Sometimes, the most unlikely individuals may be brought to the forefront and faced with a choice.
And the decision they make can bring salvation or damnation, not only for themselves, but also for thousands of souls. Lanakis had been many things in her life: a mage, a rebel, a heroine, and a villain all at once.
Born in the sprawling capital city of Aravia, the kingdom of the High Elves, she was taught and mentored in the arts of magic by some of the finest minds Teleria had to offer. However, the strict rules and limitations of the Convents of Aravia were always too rigid for Lanakis, whose heart yearned to know all the mysteries the world held.
She immersed herself in forbidden traditions, abandoning her former allegiances and venturing into the unknown. In her quest for knowledge, Lanakis entered the lands of the dark elves, where she was captured and nearly executed. But her quick wit—or exceptional luck—led the matriarch of the house to recognize the young woman's potential and decide to spare her life in exchange for a service.
For years, Lanakis took advantage of the brand-new school of arcane learning that was available to her and gave little thought to the terrible deeds committed by her protectors. Eventually, her service came to an abrupt and violent end when the Matron attempted to use Lanakis as a blood sacrifice for one of her allies, a necromancer of some infamy.
The ensuing skirmish saw Lanakis emerge victorious and his former benefactor meet his end, but this was only the beginning of his ordeal. The Necromancer was but one wizard in a powerful dark lodge, and the plans his peers had devised encompassed much more than met the eye.
News of a horde of undead flooded in—panicked cries for help and reports of a massive, organized assault that overwhelmed numerous estates and outlying forts. The nobles and soldiers of the Dark Elves were transformed into mindless ghouls in the wake of this crushing defeat.
Lanakis then had a choice: flee and wander Teleria once more, hoping that someone else would rise up to defeat the invaders, or stand her ground and fight. She chose the latter option. With no one daring to directly challenge her power, Lanakis took control of the House she had once served as a simple apprentice.
She gathered the military forces at her disposal and led them against the hordes of raging undead. One by one, the other Houses were liberated and joined Lanakis' host to fight a common enemy. One by one, the necromancers fell before her, unable to rival the power of the elven sorceress. At the height of the conflict, the Arbiter herself joined the fray.
With her champions and her alongside the armies of Lanakis, victory was assured. Once the last undead had been eliminated, the Arbiter asked Lanakis to bind his soul to Lumaya for eternal service. Far from being a pure and innocent heroine, she had nevertheless been chosen by fate and had almost single-handedly foiled a plot that would have plunged Teleria into the madness of war.
Lanakis, who valued her freedom greatly, saw the wisdom in this pact. Although she would have to commit herself to a cause greater than anything she could have imagined, this pact would allow her to expand her mastery and knowledge without limits. So it was with reluctance that she accepted and joined the ranks of the Arbitrator's Champions.
