Romero's story

But, of course, it is not only love marked by divine intervention or tragedy that deserves the minstrel's attention. These are simply good for the dramatic flair that these knights of the lute appreciate so much. More often than not, love overcomes obstacles that are less grandiose on a cosmic scale, but no less difficult for the mortals who find themselves entwined.

The Sacred Order as a whole, without necessarily imposing a vow of chastity, forbids its members from having families and heirs—a precaution designed to ensure that positions of power within the Order are passed on by right of virtue, not by right of blood. Unjustified attachment is also strongly frowned upon, and even outright forbidden in some of the stricter divisions of the Order.

It is therefore not surprising that the knights Romero and Juliana never thought they would fall in love. Romero, always calm and pious, found himself at odds with the young and cheeky Juliana, whose skill with the sword and ardent zeal led her into many mortal dangers, which she honorably overcame, much to the credit of the young knight.

But a life filled with battles tends to bring out strong emotions. Over time, the two men grew accustomed to each other's “quirks” and even learned to appreciate them. Their union, though never formalized by marriage, remains true and proven.

This union did not affect their relationship as comrades-in-arms either; on the contrary, it allowed the two knights to fight as one. Where Romero's natural caution can cause him to lose momentum, Juliana's bold but no less skillful tactics allow their forces to control the initiative.

And when Juliana begins to lose herself in the heat of battle, Romero is always there to serve as an anchor of reason. Today, they remain among the Order's foremost warriors, ready to bring the light of Lumaya wherever it is most needed.
