History of Wurlim King of Frost
According to Genesis legend, after creating the land and skies of Teleria, Lumaya wished to see her vast domains before retiring from the mortal world. So she set off far and wide, through the shady forest of Durham and the windswept lands of Krokhan, over the raging oceans and to the islands of the Mysterious East. On the very last leg of her journey, the goddess reached the frozen summit of the world, the winter lands.
There she turned to contemplate her creation and wept with grief, for even she could not save her children from the evils and sorrows that would befall them. Her tears melted the ice of the glacier and formed a magical lake, the Fountain of Lumaya, whose waters could heal any ailment or injury. Some dared to suggest that even the dead could be brought back to life, for it was the very love of the goddess that took shape.
In the millennia that followed, many villains attempted to seize control of the Police. Siroth's vile spawn, necromancers and tyrants, all hoped to hijack Lumaya's power for their own selfish ends. The Arbiter had intervened to thwart these plans, but she alone could not protect the whole of Teleria. So she sought help, recruiting to her cause a clan of powerful ice giants who populated the Winterlands, the Jotuns.
Their leader, Wurlim Frostking, a burly giant, had promised the strength of his people to Lumaya. In return, the Arbiter granted him powers beyond mortal comprehension, proclaiming him one of Lumaya's chosen ones in this desolate part of the world. For centuries, Wurlim and his followers battled the foul servants of Siroth. He was joined by other champions, the fierce Ursin brothers and the noble knight Stag, and together they kept the darkness at bay.
Alas, despite their best efforts, Siroth's power could not be denied. As Shadow and corruption spread across Teleria, the Jotuns found themselves outnumbered and gradually overwhelmed. The Enemy was insidious, as his servants used the reanimated corpses of the giants to strike fear into the defenders.
Some renounced their vows and fled south to join other members of their species or forge their own path as mercenaries rather than face the eternal torment of the undead. Discord had even been sown among the Arbiter's champions: the Knight of the Stag proposed locking the Font in ice with a complex arcane ritual and abandoning it - for a time - while the Forstking's pride would not allow him to abandon the lands he had sworn to protect. Instead, Wurlim led his surviving warriors in a last stand, shouting challenges to the enemy and calling on Lumaya's favor to aid him in battle. But there were no miracles on this field, only despair.
Defeated and mortally wounded, Wurlim used his last strength to disown and curse Lumaya for the false goddess she was. He willingly offered his soul to Siroth in exchange for revenge, and the Dark One accepted. In a flash of cold blue light, Wurlim was reborn. He was no longer mortal flesh, but a creature of ice and hatred, driven only by the bitter desire to destroy. In his first act in the service of the Darkness, Wurlim Frostking overthrew the necromancer commanding the army of the undead, taking his place and his head.
With countless servants now at his disposal, he hurried to the fountain. But as the last of the Lumayans fell and Wurlim made his way to the arcane nexus, he saw that it was encased in ice that would not break, no matter what spells or weapons were used against it.
Nor did he find the Stag Knight and the other Champions to whom he owed a debt of retribution. With a howl of rage that shattered the glaciers, the Frostking swore he would not rest until the Font was desecrated and the Winterlands belonged to Siroth. No matter how many lives it would take.
