Yannica's story
A mage with impressive innate talent and power, Yannica may well be the embodiment of the many expectations that the younger races have of her people—both good and bad. She is incredibly intelligent, without a doubt, and has mastered many arcane arts. Her advice is never given without consideration or understanding of the subject.
However, she is exasperatingly arrogant and smug. The condescending smile that so often appears on Yannica's noble features has been the bane of many allies. As a young apprentice, Yannica was obsessed with learning spells that were not part of the arsenal of ordinary wizards. Setting enemies on fire or turning them to ice?
Effective, certainly, but boring in her eyes. Yannica was looking instead for arcane spells that would allow her to siphon power from her targets and support her allies in some way. Her real breakthrough came when she deciphered ancient writings inherited from her tutor and used the knowledge they contained to perfect her own interpretation of the Veil spell.
Its first real-world application was also a resounding success. While accompanying an older Magister on an expedition to discover artifacts in crypts located far north of the Aravian capital, Yannica and her allies found themselves under attack and nearly overwhelmed by the undead.
Risking a spell that had only been half-tested, she managed to disappear from the enemy's sight in a spectacular explosion of mist. Even the dumbest ghouls were disoriented by the spectacle. And before they, or Yannica's group, realized what was happening, she rushed to an observation point.
From there, she cast a spell that killed many of the undead, while others remained weakened so that her allies could finish them off. Thus, many scholars and the guards accompanying them were saved. Although the expedition did not recover anything truly extraordinary on this occasion, Yannica's quick thinking and decisive actions allowed her to cement her reputation among her peers.
