Guide to the best champions on HS battleground (Battlegrounds)

Guide to the best champions on HS battleground

At launch, players have access to 24 heroes (with more to be added soon - four more heroes will be unveiled this year). Although they don't affect the henchmen on offer, each one is with a different hero power - a special ability either passive, or usable once per visit to the tavern (between combat phases). Some of them are stronger at first of the game, some have a good scaling at the end of the gameso you can adapt your strategy to the hero you've chosen. However, sometimes the right strategy is to ignore your hero power altogether and choose the powerful servants available to you: use your hero power. to your advantage when you can, but also be ready to choose a different route when no minion is offered. that synergize with your hero power.

At the start of the match :

  • You have two hero choices and in choose one.
  • The number of heroes you can choose from up to three thanks to the cross-progression system (purchasing packs from the Descent of Dragons expansion adds certain battlefield enhancements - and an additional hero choice is the only one to offer an extra advantage).
  • Two players will never share the same hero - since there are 8 players and up to 3 choices per player, no one will be offered duplicates.
  • Some heroes are stronger than otherseven significantly.
  • However, it is possible to earn pointseven in the rankings, with any hero.

If you're having fun with a specific hero, don't worry about his level. That said, this level list guide can help you to choose your hero based on utility various hero powers in general. We've sorted the heroes into four levels. Click on each one to gain more - including what they look like, what their hero power consists of, and why they're placed in a given level / what kind of strategy they usually use.

Bear in mind that the game has only been out for a week or so, and the meta has not yet been fully established. Some of these heroes may be over/underestimated. We'll be updating this level list in the future, as more heroes and balancing fixes become available!

TOP 1: the best champions

These heroes are extremely strong and do not present no obvious weaknesses. Their heroic powers will be a major asset in virtually any game you play.

The conservative

At the start of the game, the curator immediately receives a amalgam 1/1 as a novice servant. This means he can often win early in the towers, thanks to the presence of this extra body on the board. However, its advantage is not limited to the first few turns, as theamalgam has all types of sedids and can be improved by anything. The Nightmare amalgam is theone of the strongest henchmen of the game, as it can be transformed into a huge poisoned face with Taunt and Divine Shield, and the curator obtains a copy free of chargeeven if it only starts with 1/1 stats (later in the game, when you buffer them a lot, the few stats points won't make much difference anyway).

The Mechs are a powerful tribe, and the power of Millificent's heroes is invaluable. makes all your Mechs bigger. You often want to use it for improve your MechsMillificent also adds another + 1 / + 1 with each magnetization. This can easily snowball your board at extreme power levels. The icing on the cake is the hero's power. completely passiveso you don't have no need to be careful when using it.

If you don't have good Mechs, the only reason Millificent's hero power will fail is that most of the best Mechs are located on levels 3 and 4 of the tavern.that there is a large reserve of them, and that you can forcing Mechs with a very high success rateif you really want to play with them.

AF Kah

AF Kah (nice pun ^^) cannot perform any actions in the first two rounds and must simply wait passively and suffer damage without her own board. However, damage is low at the start of the turns, and turn three is a huge power spike for the hero, as she discovers two henchmen for free. These henchmen belong to levels 3 and 4 of the tavern and often win the following rounds while you catch up with Tavern Tiers.

Le Recousu has a largest health pool than other heroes, which allows you to play a greedier game earlier and evolve faster to your victory conditions at the end of the game. Damage increases dramatically on battlefields. So, if you're weaker than the others at the end of the game, your advantage of 20 life points can earn you an extra turn. It's all about building for the long term at an early stage when damage is still relatively low: get greedy and enter the last game after suffering 30 damages is a completely different experience when at 30 or 10 hit points.

Although you generally don't want to play with demons in the game, Le Recousu is the best hero to fetch them should the opportunity arise. Wrath Weavers inflict a lot of damage before you find Mal'Ganis at the Tier 5 tavern, and Annihilian War Master gains more hit points with the extra damage you suffered during the match, and all this benefits greatly from the largest of care at Le Recousu.

The power of Nefarian heroes inflicts one gold point to all enemy minions with one point of area damage. This is phenomenal at the end of the game, when you often have to face multiple minions with Divine Shields, which can keep them away from the opponent. Since it only costs one gold, it is also easy to take several turns in the middle of the game for you give you the edge you need to keep your health later.

TOP 2: Strong champions

These heroes are very powerful, but their powers are slightly less useful universally than those of rank 1 heroes. Often, their hero powers include a random element which means inconsistent resultsEven if the heroes' powers are so strong that they generally compensate for any variance.

King Mukla

Illustration of Mukla power

Every time you buy a beast as a Mukla king, you are entitled to win a gold banana equal to zero which gives a + 1 / + 1. You can use bananas for polish minions immediately that you buy, giving each animal you buy a bonus of + 1 / + 1or you can save them afterwards to polish key beasts, such as the carrion hyena, the rat-meute or the Hydra cave. This can lead to substantial improvements for some of its henchmen.

The Beasts are a powerful tribe, but they are not as coherent as the Mechs, because their full power is released only at rank 6 with Mama Bear. Cleansing the hyena and pack leader can help you reach this point, if you can find them with a few Deathrattle beasts that summon more beasts during the fight.

Toki the Infinite

Image illustration of Toki
Image taken from the Internet

Toki the Infinite can give you a huge advantage with his hero power: when you update the tavern with your hero power, an extra help is offered and is guaranteed to belong to the next level. At the start of the game, you are assured of receive a level 3 henchman of the Tavern when your opponents will find level 2 henchmen at best. At the end of the game, you can obtain servants from group 6 guaranteed on group 5. This is particularly important, as you're usually not guaranteed to see servants of your highest level available! Even a level 6 tavern does not guarantee that you see level 6 henchmen.

Nevertheless, Toki is not a guaranteed success. If you get to the end of the game and start throwing those rank 6 minions, there's a good chance you'll be able to find a mama bear, for example. However, at the start of the game, many henchmen are not worth buying, even if they belong to a higher level. You so you can't take advantage of the heroes' power. When the stars align perfectly, Toki can be unstoppable, but things don't always go his way.

The Rat King

The Rat King offers passive stat bonuses them more powerful available in the game. However, there's a problem: the tribe offers bonuses for random exchanges on each turn. There are Rat King games in which you choose polished minions for a single-tribe strategy, usually including the Nightmare amalgam for added flexibility, and there are Rat King games in which you choose polished minions for a single-tribe strategy, usually including the Nightmare amalgam for added flexibility. you build a menagerie painting from various tribes and multi-tribal servants.

Alas, there are also the King of Rats games where you can't get the right tribes rolling in the correct turns and get very little benefit from the hero's power. Even the very first turn can take many forms: as you can't afford to update the henchmen offered in the first turn, you get either a + 1 / + 2 protected henchman and pass over your first opponents, Where you don't get no benefits. There are many involved strategy in maximizing your winnings from The Rat King, but there's also also has a lot of variance.

Yogg-Saron, the end of hope

Image taken from the Internet

Yogg-Saron offers you two advantages. First, it gives you some improved minionswhich can be decisive at the start of a game and help you to be unharmed in the middle of the game. Secondly, he's the only hero who can recruiting a helper for just two golds: it's a random seide of the line in front of you, but it means you have the possibility ofcatch two henchmen in the third round when you have access to five gold coins. Other heroes spend gold to refresh or their hero power this turn, and you can spend it for more body on the board.

When Yogg is on a roll, he rules. Cheaper minions and a + 1 / + 1 buff to boot, what's not to like? Alas, sometimes you have nice rolls of 50% or 66% to get a super minion and you simply miss out. That's the unstable nature of this ancient God, but the overall power it provides is still substantial.

Daryl the Dancer

Daryl the Dancer is theone of the hardest heroes to play. It can potentially bring substantial improvements to henchmen, but it can be difficult to set up the tavern so that they can land on the right seide. You can use token generators such as Alleycat and Murloc Tidehunter to give you more servants to sell (yes, tokens also count as complete servants) and you can buy servants at the tavern just for resale so that there are fewer options available to help you land buffs on the right sedid. Heroes' power wording notwithstanding, the two buffs + 1 / + 1 can be applied to the same aid. So, if you leave just one servant in the tavern, you'll be able to strengthen it considerably in just one turn.

TOP 3: Champions with bonuses

These heroes have major strengths under the right circumstances, but their overall power level cannot match that of high-level minions. Either they're situational or just generally less powerful, but their Hero Powers can and do win games.

Lord Jaraxxus

Image taken from the Internet

The bloody fury of Lord Jaraxxus is a powerful effect: you can improve your board by +7 / +7 in total, and that's no joke. With two manas, it's possible toinclude the power of heroes in your turns, often in the middle of the game. Its main limitation is that it applies only to demons, who are a mediocre tribe.

This doesn't mean you can't have good games as Lord Jaraxxus. A group of demons at the start of the game who are about to be tripled, enhanced turn after turn by the power of the heroes, can form a powerful array. It's simply difficult to succeed systematically, because find a good number of demons early in the game to make them really great.

Baz'hial the Lich looks like the prince of commerce Gallywix in that its hero power gives you coins on hand and allows you to store your gold for future use. However, Baz'hial's hero power costs no gold and inflicts three wounds when in use. This means you can do things faster than with GallywixYou can store gold right from the start, and have just one extra gold at your disposal each turn with the click of a button.

Baz'hial is a high-risk heroes and highly profitable. Some uses of hero power absorb a significant proportion of your health. You must therefore find the right servants quicklyYou can't afford to lose battles in the middle of the game. On the other hand, a strong board that wins battles can give you one step ahead of your rivals. Baz'hial's synergy with Mal'ganis is hilarious, because you can simply making gold from scratchYour hero is protected from damage. Disadvantagedemons are already a tribe causing a lot of damage. So it's easy to kill yourself with all the damage caused by both your minions and your hero power long before you see Mal'Ganis.

Ragnaros, Lord of Fire

Illustration of Ragnaros, lord of fire
Image taken from the Internet

Ragnaros the fire lord does exactly what you'd expect: he fires giant fireballs at your opponent's henchmen. Although the targets are random, eight damage hits are nothing to scoff at, especially when he hits two henchmen. Late in the game, Ragnaros is surprisingly effective at shooting Scavenging Hyenas, Mama Bears and Junkbots before the battle has even properly begun, and even if he fails to hit them, he often pulls out a divine shield or two. In the middle of the game, any excess gold you have can turn into battles won, as at this stage most minions die like fireballs.

Obviously, Ragnaros is random and sometimes you can't hit the right targets. Additionally, late game boards sometimes get so big that eight damage only scratches minions. These factors prevent Ragnaros from reaching the upper echelons.

Carniflora

Carniflore is the hero to choose if you want to build giant Pogo-Hoppers. Stay in a low-level tavern (Pogo-Hopper is a level-two henchman) and keep those Pogos coming! Although this isn't a first-rate strategy, it's a great way to can be hilarious when it works.

Shudderwock is, however much more than memesas it can also be used for double powerful battle spells, such as Menagerie Magician, later in the game. As theThe effect costs two gold for each fight you want to trigger twice, it is difficult to afford early in the game.

Note that the Hero's Power does not stack with Brann Bronzebeard's effect - it's exactly the same effect. Therefore, every hero has some access to Carniflore's ability
and Brann doesn't need to be activated separately each time, although it does take up space on the map. You can't always find Brann, whereas Carniflore can still activate its power on demand.

Improve the survivability of your key subordinatesThis can be done for a number of servants, resulting in some very solid boards.

The downside of George's Hero Power is thatit costs four times as much gold than any other Hero Power in the game. This makes it unusable for most of the game and is onlyan asset at the end of the game. If you can make it to the end of the match, you have an advantage, but you don't get any help along the way.

The Grand Akazamzarak brings a unique Hearthstone mechanism in Battlegrounds: Secrets. Every time you use the power of the Akazamzarak hero, you're discover a secret and put it on the line. If the secret is not triggered during the battle, the continues to the next round. Because battles tend to be a back-and-forth affair, most Secrets are triggered immediately in the next fight, but you can sometimes configure things so that you can keep them longer.

In particular, Akazamzarak can discover Ice Block, which only triggers when you take lethal damage, thus preventing damage. This can help you to save time and opt for greedier strategies if you discover it early in the game. You can also obtain other powerful secrets, such as Image Split (creates a copy of your server when attacked, only triggers if you have enough disk space for an extra server) and Autodefense Matrix (gives your Divine Shield server when attacked).

While the powers of the Great Akazamzarak may seem a little cuter than deadlySecrets can and will win games when you are able to find the right and use correctly.

TOP 4: The weakest Champions

Neunoeil the pirate

Picture illustration of Neunœil the pirate

Patches look a lot like Ragnaros Lord of the Lord: both inflict damage on two random minions. Patches has the advantage that his hero power is cheaper and reaches only one gold. This means it's easy to integrate into your mid-game turns. However, it inflicts only three damage compared to Ragnaros' eight. Ragnaros, on the other hand, simply kills its targets mid-game and can eliminate growing threats late in the game, Patches regularly fails to kill henchmen even in the middle of the game and can only scratch Divine Shields at the end of the game. It's still something, and it doesn't cost muchbut it's not strong enough to make you want to play as Patches.

Sovereign Wax-Queen

Sovereign Wax-Queen can buff your servantsat least a little. If you can set up a menagerie table, you can obtain up to 4 life points for your board per round for only gold, and at such a low costIt's easy to use the hero's power a lot. However, it it takes some time for these incremental improvements to show major resultsand since the attacks are not improved, your serviteurs lack the necessary punch to get through. It is also important to find henchmen that you wish to keep in order to maintain buffs: if you continue to sell buffed minions, the effect is short-lived.

Sovereign Wax-Queen is generally at his best at the start of the gameWe're a company where a small health advantage can lead to winning battles. Unless you find a good composition early on menagerie, its power is beginning to lag as the game progresses.

Murloc Warleader can help turn small tokens into a bit more of a threat, and the hero's power is cheap for a gold. So he can help at the beginning and in the middle of the gameBut his power diminished considerably towards the end of the match.

Note that you you don't have to play Murlocs simply because you're a Giant-Finster. 1/1 tokens are always useful, so you can use them even if your army doesn't include any Murloc.

On the other hand, the overall power level is even lower than that of Quenn Wagtoggle's Power of the Hero.

Pyraride can help you give an advantage at the start of the gamebut its power level is weak at the end of the game. Given that early turns are not as important as the subsequent turnsPyraride is therefore a sub-optimal choice.

Professor Putricide

Illustration of Professor Putricide
Image taken from the Internet

Professor Putricide can attack your leftmost servant, the first to attack, and he grant a temporary +10 attack bonus. This can be useful at times: early in the game, you can place a small token on the left and upgrade it to kill its target, and at the end of the game, you can use the upgrade on a sedid, such as Cave Hydra or Foe Reaper 4000, to inflict major damage.

However, the power of Putricide's hero is very one-dimensional and predictable. It's always the first sedid to attack that gets the buff, so a Provocation seide with Divine Shield cancels it out completely. Against a cleaved servant, a little positioning and placing an unimportant target or one with a divine shield next to the Provocation servant is necessary to render the effect null and void. it's still not too much work. Putricide simply doesn't have many tricks up its sleeve.
