How do young driver points work?
After obtaining the driving license, the number of points accepted for a young driver is 6. For a confirmed license, the number of points is 12. New points are credited to the license each year, until they reach 12 and the end of the probationary licence. However, the number of points depends on the course followed:
- For the training to obtain a classic license: you will obtain 2 points per year which is the equivalent of a 3-year probationary license;
- For accompanied driving training: you will obtain 3 points per year, which is the equivalent of a 2-year probationary licence.
However, if you commit violations, the points will be lost and the deadlines will no longer be valid.
How long to get the 12 points?
The points of a driving license are lost very quickly, but it takes you a long time to get them again. 6 months to obtain 12 points
This situation is only valid in the event of a small infraction, because it is the shortest. Here's how it works: if you haven't lost any points yet or a point on your first offense, you'll give it back after 6 months. However, you must not commit new offences.
2 years for 12 points
If you haven't committed any offense or "mistake" for 2 years, you will get 12 points. On the other hand, this period is valid at the time of payment of the last infringement. But, if you commit other nonsense in the meantime, you will be subject to other deadlines.
3 years for 12 points
If you commit further driving offenses two years after the last offence, the recovery period for the 12 points will be extended by 3 years. On the other hand, you must pay all of your offenses to be able to recover the 12 points.
10 years for 12 points
But, if you commit offenses each time, a period of 10 years for the recovery of your 12 points will be applied automatically. For your information, if you reach a zero balance in the meantime, a cancellation of your license will apply immediately.
