Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG that is exceptionally rich in side content, giving players the opportunity to further improve their in-game skills by participating in the side quests, which are also required to complete the game at 100 %.
These side quests each have their level of difficulty, with a wide variety of missions to offer players. Some of them can only be found by exploring the world of Hogwarts, such as the quest called A Portrait in Fine Sheets. To access this quest, you will have to look for it, because you may not find it otherwise.
The quest will lead you to recover an unusual object whose fate is uncertain. Here are the quest details.

Start of the side quest: A portrait in fine sheets in Hogwarts Legacy
You can trigger this quest by quickly going to the library and then approaching the portrait to the right of where the Floo Flame spawns them. Interacting with the portrait will allow you to meet Ferdinand Octavius Pratt, a rather obnoxious character who claims that some Hogwarts students wronged him.
He will tell you that the portrait of him that once hung on the Three Broomsticks was stolen and taken to a very remote place. He is convinced that Astoria Crickett is behind this theft. After a scene, your character will say to himself that he should speak to Astoria before starting the search.
Location of Astoria Cricket
Astoria Crickett can be found inside the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade. Go to the southern flame of Hogsmeade to head north until you see the establishment. Once inside, you'll be able to interact with Astoria, and find out that she's decided to move Ferdinand's portrait as it reports student conversations to the headmaster. She will inform you that she hired thieves who took her to a ruin near the coast. The description seems vague but the game will indicate the exact location of the ruins in question once the scene is completed.
Location of Grottaleau Ruins
If you haven't made it to the southeast section of the Hogwarts Legacy map yet, you'll need to fight your way through the enemy encampment east of the South Sea bog first, then go through the cave located in the southeast corner. On the other side, you will have to fly your broomstick south along the coast until you reach the ruins of Grottaleau.
On the other hand, if you have already visited this section of the map, you can teleport directly to the flame of the ruins of Grottaleau. Upon arrival, you'll need to fight and defeat the poachers and Ashwinders lurking in the area before you can easily seek the entrance to the cave below.
Once all the Dark Mages have been eliminated, head to the northern section of the ruins, where you will see a staircase leading down below. At the end of this path, you will find a level 2 lock that you will have to open to reach the portrait. You must first have collected all nine Demiguise Statues and brought them back to Gladwin Moon in another side quest to learn the spell to unlock these advanced locks.
Choosing an ending for the portrait of Ferdinand Octavius Pratt
After interacting with Ferdinand in the final chamber, you will have a choice of what happens to his portrait. By answering "Let's get out of here," you can either send him back to the Three Broomsticks or bring him to Boar's Head, an establishment Ferdinand despises.
Ferdinand will thank you if you take him back to the Three Broomsticks, but taking him to Boar's Head will probably be the nicer option. When he arrives, Ferdinand will cringe at the idea of being in such an unsuitable establishment, and the bartender will suggest to him that his portrait would make a good shooting practice.
The second option will take you to a choice where you can burn his portrait. Each result will reward you with the Shelf of Curiosities, a decorative item that you can place in the Room of Requirement. You are therefore free to choose the outcome you want, because your decision will not really impact the whole story.
