Hogwarts Legacy game requires you to upgrade your gear to boost your abilities.
You can, when you are new to the game, change gear just to improve your stats and survive longer. But once you've completed the Room of Requirement quests and learned the skills to save the beasts, you'll be able to upgrade your gear.
You can tame the beasts to acquire magic materials in Hogwarts Legacy, these materials are used in the Enchanted Loom and will allow you to improve the equipment of your choice. Here's how.

Steps to improve your equipment in Hogwarts Legacy
You must first complete the main quest The Elf, the Backpack, and the Loom, then use the Loom to upgrade your gear. You will be required to venture outside with Cheek the Elf and capture three beasts, which are the Boursouf, the Jobarbille and the Mooncalf (Veaudelune), then return to the Room of Requirement to add another section for the beasts. You will then see the Vivarium appear, where the collected beasts can be installed.
At the end of this quest, Cheek will give you the model of a loom, which you can create using the conjuration spell in the Room of Requirement. You can then, by connecting to the loom, activate the menu of all the equipment you have to improve them.
Each equipment corresponds to different materials extracted from the rescued beasts. Initially, your main character can only obtain Fur from Boursouf, Feather from Jobarbille, and Fur from Mooncalf. It will then be necessary to tame other wild beasts to obtain other magic materials.
Using the Loom in Hogwarts Legacy
There are various ways you can be rewarded in Hogwarts Legacy, such as participating in battles or exploring camps that can give you access to new spells or improve your character.
The loom in particular allows you to sew your equipment from magic materials or using traits obtained during the various quests. IAll you have to do is interact with the loom, then select the equipment you want to upgrade. This will take you to two options: increase stats or apply a trait. Each item of clothing has its defense and attack stats, using the required magic material increases them. To apply a trait, you will need Boursouf's fur, knowing that certain traits can only be used depending on the rarity of the equipment, namely Superb, Extraordinary and Legendary.
Where to find the beasts
To tame the beasts, you will need to find the icon of a paw print on the Hogwarts map. This will show you the different locations of the beasts around. As you get closer to the habitat, you will be able to capture the beasts you need with the capture bag and a spell to slow them down (like Levioso, Arresto Momentum, or Glacius). You will then need to brush and feed them in the Vivarium before you can extract the magical materials from them.
