Sellia, the City of Witchcraft, is a ghost town in ruins nestled to the northeast of Caelid in Elden Ring. To explore the entire city, you must break a magical seal by lighting three hidden bonfires on the rooftops.
This guide shows you how to reach the area, break the seal, collect the rare items, and defeat the boss. To understand the purpose of the imbued keys, see our guide to impregnated keys (blades).
Introduction to Sellia, the city of witchcraft in Elden Ring
Sellia is a large ruined city perched to the northeast of Caelid, the region ravaged by the Scarlet Plague. On the map, it appears as a vast network of staircases and rooftops clinging to a hillside. It’s an area teeming with chests and magical items, but dangerous from the very first step.
The city is populated by ghostly versions of noble wizards, wizards from Raya Lucaria and guards. They remain invisible as long as you don't get close to them. Some of them fire magical projectiles from a distance without ever showing themselves, then teleport far away from you to resume firing.
The best thing to do as soon as you arrive: summon a spirit ash. Your summon will track down invisible enemies and charge at them, drawing their attacks and leaving you free to strike back.
The area is the same on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series and Xbox. This guide Elden Ring is valid on all of these platforms.
Where to find Sellia in Elden Ring
Sellia is located northeast of Caelid. From the region's high roads, head east and then north until you reach the entrance to the City of Witchcraft. The Point of Grace “Sellia Under the Stairs” serves as your starting point for exploration. From there, you make your way up through the city along streets blocked by bluish barriers: these are the magical seals that seal off half the city.
On the map, locate the wooded area north of the plain of Caelid. You can also reach Sellia through the large tunnel located to the northwest, which takes you directly to the bottom of the city.
How to break the seal of Sellia : light the three fire pits
To remove the blue barriers blocking the City of Witchcraft, you must light three bonfires placed on the rooftops. Each bonfire that is lit makes a seal disappear and opens a new path to the heart of Sellia.
Here's how to find each of the three braziers:
- Blaze 1 : From the “Sellia under the stairs” save point, climb the first few steps and look for a ladder on your left. Climb onto the roof of the building and light the bonfire at the end of the path.
- Blaze 2 : Keep heading north. Look for a large tree and a raised platform on your right. A ladder leads up to it. The brazier is on the roof of this building.
- Blaze 3 : at the very top of the citadel, on the tallest tower visible from below. You can reach it via a series of outdoor staircases and ladders that run along the north facade of Sellia.
Watch out for the invisible mages lurking on the heights at each stage. Use your summoning spell to force them to reveal themselves. Once the three broken seals, access to the heart of the city and its treasure chests is finally granted.

Items to collect in Sellia, City of Witchcraft
Sellia contains several rare items. Here are the most important ones to collect:
- Bâton d’éclat de Lusat : the most powerful spell staff in the game. You must use an imbued key to break open the chest sealed by an imp statue that contains it. This staff increases the power of your spells, but at the cost of higher energy consumption. Retrieve the Staff of Radiance from Lusat is the main prize in the area.
- Spell Comète nighttime : A powerful comet spell that can be found in one of the city's chests, ideal for long-range magic builds.
- Magical Dragon Talisman : A talisman that enhances magic dragon-type spells. Can be found in a chest at the bottom of the upper area.
- Forging stones : Several forge stones are scattered throughout the chests and on the enemies in Sellia. Useful for upgrading your weapons as you progress through the game.
- Other magical items : Herbs, ammunition, and resource shards can be collected from corpses and in the nooks and crannies of the city.
Nearby, the’Sellia's Lair is full of other useful resources to help you improve in Elden Ring.
The boss from Sellia in Elden Ring : The Swordsman and the Nokrien Priest
Deep within the city, a battle awaits you against The Swordsman and the Nokrien Priest. This boss battle against two enemies is one of the trickiest fights in Sellia : You're facing a fast melee warrior and a ranged spellcaster at the same time.
Here are the best tips for this battle:
- Start by taking out the Nokrien Priest first. He’s the most dangerous from a distance and can get you into trouble if you deal with the swordsman first.
- Use a summon to draw the attention of one of the two enemies while you focus on the other. This is the most effective strategy against this duo.
- Stay mobile in the arena. The back of the arena provides space to dodge the Priest's projectiles while handling the swordsman in close combat.
- If you're playing a spell-based build, save your long-range spells for the Priest and use a Night Comet spell to hit him from a distance before he gets close to you.
Once you've defeated the Swordsman and the Priest, you'll have completed all the boss instances in Sellia and you can head out again to explore the rest of Caelid.
The connection to the quest for Gowry and Millicent
Sellia also plays a role in the quest for Millicent. The character of Gowry, a merchant and scholar living south of Caelid, asks you to retrieve the golden needle located in the City of Sorcery.
This quest takes you on an exploration of Sellia in depth, making it a must-visit if you want to finish the story of Millicent in Elden Ring.
