The Wandering Mausoleums: Uses, Spawn Locations, and Information

The walking mausoleums ofElden Ring allow you to duplicate a memory from boss.

That way, you get both rewards from the same memory : a weapon and a spell or sorcery that you would otherwise have had to sacrifice.

There are 7 of them in the game, spread across several regions, and knowing where to find them really changes the way you play.

What is the purpose of the mobile mausoleums in Elden Ring?

The walking mausoleums are used to duplicate the memories of boss in Elden Ring.

A keepsake is the reward left behind by a great boss after its death. You can exchange it with Enia at the Round Table for a weapon, an incantation, or a spell related to that boss.

The problem: a memory only grants one reward. You have to choose between the boss's weapon and its spells. That's where the mausoleum comes in handy.

Upon entering a mausoleum mobile, you duplicate the memory of your choice. You get a second copy. Use one copy to retrieve the weapon, and the other to unlock the incantations or spells from the same boss. No need to wait for a second run to get everything.

A small distinction: not all mausoleums are the same. Those that bear a bell on the back can replicate any memory, including those of the legendary boss models.

Those without a bell are limited to certain memories only. Each mausoleum can only be used once per game, so plan the order of your duplications carefully.

Which memories can be duplicated?

Here is a non-exhaustive list of duplicable souvenirs and their associated rewards from Enia:

• Memories of Godrick the Grafted : Godrick's hammer-axe or Godrick's prosthetic sorcery.
• Memories of Rennala : Full Ivory Moon or Witchcraft Ranni the witch.
• Memories of Radahn : Radahn's swords or Radahn's "Meteors" spell.
• Memories of Rykard : Rykard's Spear or the Rykard's Fountain spell.
• Memories of Morgott : Morgott's scimitar or the "Blessing of Morgott" spell.
• Memories of the Tree's Shadow : Maliketh's Scourge or the "Maliketh's Black Sword" spell.
• Memories of the Lord of the Stars : Placidusax's Hammer or the "Breath of Placidusax" spell.
• Memories of Mohg : Mohg's Trident or the spell "Mohg's Bloody Ritual.".
• Memories of Malenia : Malenia's Sickle or the Scarlet Aeonia incantation.
• Memory of the Elden Lord : Star-shaped sword or the Elden Lord's "Radiation" spell.

Secondary boss souvenirs do not require a mausoleum with a bell. For large bosss, make sure you use a mausoleum with a bell; otherwise, the duplication will be rejected.

How do you enter a traveling mausoleum?

To enter a walking mausoleum, you must first make it kneel. You have to destroy the skulls attached to its feet.

This technique is explained in a note available in the game. It is called Note: Mausolées ambulants. You can buy it from a merchant located south of Necrolimbe.

In practical terms : Approach the mausoleum, then strike the white skulls at its feet with any weapon. Once the skulls are destroyed, the structure will kneel, and the interior will become accessible.

Note that there is one exception: in the mausoleum located in Lake Liurnia, the skulls are not at the bottom but on the upper level. You have to climb up to reach them.

How can you recreate a memory inside the mausoleum?

Once inside the mausoleum, you'll find a table of grace. Interact with her. A menu will appear showing a list of the mementos you have. Select the one you want to duplicate. You'll immediately receive a second copy in your inventory.

You can then put the two back together copies to Enia to claim both rewards from the same boss. You no longer have to choose between the weapons and spells associated with this memory.

Reminder: Each mausoleum can duplicate only one memory per game. The grace table inside becomes unusable after the first duplication.

Where can I find all the mobile mausoleums in Elden Ring?

It exists 7 traveling mausoleums in Elden Ring, spread across five regions. Here are their locations one by one, along with how to stop them.

Mausoleum 1: Peninsula of Tears (with bell)

This mausoleum stands south of Limgrave, on the Peninsula of Tears. It’s often the first one you come across. It’s visible from the coast, in the central-western part of the peninsula, not far from the coastal ruins. It carries a bell: you can duplicate any large boss keepsake with it. Destroy the skulls on its feet to make it kneel.

Mausoleum 2: Lake Liurnia (no bell)

This mausoleum runs along the southern shore of Lake Liurnia. It is the only bell-less walking mausoleum in the game. It cannot duplicate the memories of the legendary boss giants.

Be careful when trying to defeat it: its skulls aren't at its feet but on the level above it. You have to climb up there to destroy them, then make your way inside.

Mausoleum 3: Raya Lucaria Peninsula, Liurnia (with bell)

Located in the eastern part of Liurnia, near the ruins of Raya Lucaria. He carries a bell and can duplicate all legendary memories. Destroy the skulls on his feet to enter. It's one of the most accessible mausoleums early in the game.

Mausoleum 4: Solcastel Castle, Peaks of the Giants (with bell)

This Mausoleum Patrol right in front of the castle in Solcastel, north of the Giants' Peaks. The area is prone to lightning strikes: proceed with caution. It carries a bell and can duplicate all of boss's memories. Destroy the skulls on its feet to immobilize it.

Mausoleum 5: Frozen Lake, Peaks of the Giants (with bell)

This mausoleum is located southeast of the Peaks of the Giants, in the area of snow-covered ruins near the frozen lake. He is carrying a bell. The method is the same as with the others: destroy the skulls at his feet to get inside.

Mausoleum 6: Ordina, Consecrated Snowfields (with bell)

Located northwest of’Ordina, near the abandoned Shrine of Grace in the Sacred Snowfields. This area is only accessible after reaching an advanced stage in the game. He is carrying a bell.

Mausoleum 7: North Plateau, Sacred Snowfields (with bell)

This last mausoleum wanders through the section north of the Snowfields consecrated, in a secluded area. He carries a bell and can duplicate any memories. He is often the last one players find, since this region is one of the later ones in the game.

Distinguishing between mausoleums with and without domes is essential for planning your duplications.

If you want to recreate the experience of a great boss like Malenia or the Lord of the Stars, uses only a mausoleum with a bell.

Which memories should be backed up first?

With only 7 mausoleums available for 10 duplicable souvenirs, you'll have to make some choices. Here are some guides to help you:

• Memories of Malenia : Grants access to Malenia's Sickle (a rare weapon for dexterity builds) and Scarlet Aeonia (a unique spell). This memory cannot be obtained any other way without a new run.
• Memories of Rykard : Rykard's spear is one of the most formidable weapons in the game. The "Rykard's Fountain" spell is essential for a Faith build. Be sure to duplicate it.
• Memories of the Lord of the Stars : Placidusax is one of the hardest boss to reach in the ruins of Farum Azula. His memory unlocks unique rewards that are hard to obtain again.
• Memories of Morgott : for builds that focus on a combination of incantations and weapons of faith.
• Memories of Radahn : His swords are among the most popular weapons in the game. Radahn's "Meteors" spell is also very useful for a spell-based build.

Godrick and Rennala's mementos are easier to obtain on a new run. If you're short on mausoleums, save them for later.

Tips for Making the Most of Mobile Mausoleums

• Prioritizes duplicating memories of the boss that you found the most difficult. You won't want to play through them again in NG+.
• Before duplicating, check out the two rewards available from Enia. Some weapons are prerequisites for specific builds; other mementos grant incantations or sorceries that can’t be found anywhere else.
• Mausoleums do not regenerate. Each one can only be used once per game. Plan the order of your duplications in advance.
• If you're aiming for a hybrid build (weapons and spells from the same boss), the Walking Mausoleums are perfect for that.
• the DLC Shadow of the Erdtree Don't add any new walking mausoleums. The 7 from the base game remain your only resource for duplicating memories, even with the DLC Shadow of the Erdtree installed.
• On PS5 and Xbox Series, the game is identical in this regard. There is no difference in content between the versions PC, PS5 and Xbox.
• War ashes are not tied to memories and are obtained in a different way. Neither are talismans: they are items to be found in the regions, not traded through mausoleums.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you duplicate the same memory multiple times?

Each mausoleum can only be used as’only once per game. However, if you have multiple copies of the same memento (obtained through New Game+ or specific mechanics) or if you simply want to place the same boss in two different mausoleums, that is entirely possible.

You can duplicate up to 7 memories in total per game (one per mausoleum).

Do you have to defeat the boss before duplicating its memory?

Yes. You must first defeat the boss to obtain its memory, then enter a mausoleum to duplicate it. The Grace Table inside only offers the memories you already have.

What happens if you duplicate a memory before trading it?

There's nothing negative about it. You can duplicate the memory either before or after using it once with Enia. The order doesn't matter for the final result.

Are the "walking mausoleums" included in the game's official walkthrough?

Yes, all the official walkthroughs and guides for’Elden Ring mention them. These structures are an integral part of the base game. No special access or DLC No additional steps are required to use them.

Are there any walking mausoleums in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC?

No. The DLC Shadow of the Erdtree does not add any "walking mausoleums" to its regions.

The memories obtained in the DLC Shadow of the Erdtree are not compatible with the traveling mausoleums from the base game. These mausoleums only allow you to duplicate the memories of the boss from the original game. As a result, the memories from the DLC can only be obtained once per game.
