Story of Survivante au Sable

The life of an Orc is brutal and often short, as theirs is a warlike and demanding society, brought to the brink of extinction by the wars they have fought in the past. Weakness is not welcome here, but even among the Orcs, there are tribes that advocate survival of the fittest far beyond what most of their fellow creatures would consider wise.

There are countless bloody and painful initiation rituals, and the sands of the Krokhan Desert certainly offer no shortage of dangerous trials. The Varshnak tribe, in particular, is renowned for its brutality. Tradition dictates that one day before coming of age, each orc is captured in the middle of the night, bound, and taken deep into the desert.

The shamans ensure that these young warriors fall into a deep sleep thanks to a mixture of herbs and spices powerful enough to knock out an ogre, and their elders only release the unfortunate souls once they have reached their destination—usually a small cave in the cliffs, an abandoned burrow, or any other oddity of the terrain that will keep the juve alive until dawn.

The young orc awakens to find nothing but a small water bottle and a crude knife beside him. From there, he must fight his way through the deadly dunes of Krokhan, survive countless dangers, and find his tribe.

Only then can one hope to become a true Varshnak. As might be expected, this practice keeps the tribe's membership low due to the high mortality rate among its warriors.

But those who live to see the end of their trials are hardened and experienced survivors, capable of thriving in the harshest conditions and despising any sign of weakness—for that is the way of their Kin. Encountering these brutal raiders in combat is a challenge not to be underestimated.
