Commonly known as Frostskins, these ice trolls live in the snow-capped mountains and ice-covered plains of Northern Teleria. However, as the Shadow grows and its corruption spreads across the land, many of them are forced to abandon their cavernous homes and join their fellows to form traveling tribes or bands, or seek to survive on their own. The magic that courses through their veins has visible effects, allowing Frostskins to chill anything they touch, and often turn their enemies to ice. But they are also able to use this same magic to heal their wounds, if they wish, even if the process is as slow as the changing seasons in their frozen homeland.
Many creatures inhabit the harsh arctic expanses of the Telerian north, curious and dangerous at the same time. It's no surprise that trolls, tough and stubborn as they are, have also carved out a niche for themselves in these inhospitable lands. While the other denizens of Teleria often had to rely on their ingenuity and skill to survive the perpetual cold, their natural affinity with magic enabled the trolls to adapt in a far more drastic way, much like their cousins living in the mountains and swamps of the south. Rather than fight the cold, these trolls literally embraced it. Crystals of pure ice protrude from their skin, forming a tough natural armor. Their skin is as cold as ice to the touch, and when the troll makes a conscious effort to channel its inner magics, it can be enough to encase even tall creatures in chains of ice. Frostskins often use this innate ability to hunt or to defend themselves against daring adventurers who cross their path. Curiously, these trolls are also able to channel their power to stem bleeding wounds, at the cost of numbing the limbs of those they help in this way, as they never quite lose their icy touch. The many caves or burrows that dot the landscape allow frost hides to lodge easily. They hide there and gorge themselves there out of sight of their rivals and predators large enough to represent a real danger. Frostskins, like other trolls, are said to be naturally drawn to magical items and often seek to hoard arcane trinkets in their lairs. Many champions venture into the polar wastelands in hopes of recovering a valuable item. And many find themselves facing enraged frozen skins, which protect their "collections" with the ferocity of a dragon.
