Story of Jack the Harvester (Harvest Jack)
Teleria has always been rich in nightmares and things to fear. Raiders and robbers, Siroth and his minions, who never stop plotting the downfall and enslavement of the mortal realms, the undead who prowl the darkest nights in search of victims to devour or bewitch. But there is one being whom primal horror has made manifest. The superstitious peasants of Kaerok, where this being first appeared, call him "Harvest Jack". In fact, references to an evil spirit with nearly identical powers and appearance are found in much older cultures. But, for some reason, it faded from history and lay dormant until about three centuries ago. The name is no coincidence, as Harvest Jack was first sighted during Lozrayn, a harvest festival that originated in Kaerok. His motives and goals are unclear, but they're still malevolent in some way. Jack has been known to play tricks on the unwary, seeking to scare them away – some say all of his victims are frightened to death and Jack devours their souls, which isn't entirely accurate – or for showing up amidst the revelry. and scare the peasants in all directions. Sometimes, however, it turns into a massacre without rhyme or reason. Scholars advance the theory that Harvest Jack feeds on the fear of mortals and will do whatever it takes to cause nightmares to back him up. The spirit still gathers as a whirlwind of arcane energies or, perhaps, twisted anime gathered into a single dark consciousness. His birth is described as a flash of blinding light, followed by a dreadful form that slowly materializes. His pumpkin head twists and carves into a rictus of jagged teeth, his scythe burns with the cold flame of death, and his power warps benevolent magic until it withers and turns to harm those that she was supposed to help out. Harvest Jack's last appearance has been widely reported, but details are scarce. Witnesses claim that the malevolent entity sprang from a pumpkin patch at the height of the fair and went on a rampage. If four brave warriors had not intervened, she would have caused a massacre of terrifying proportions. But even these noble souls were no match for the spirit of darkness, whose strength grew as the Shadow ruled Teleria. It took the personal appearance of the Arbiter who had resurrected his champions and crossed his holy sword with Harvest Jack's evil scythe to repel the revenant. Since then, Harvest Jack often appears under the full moon of cold autumn nights, always hungry, always looking for hapless mortals to feed him. It's unclear if this kind of power can be trapped in a shard, but if so, the revenant's dark powers will certainly come in handy in the fight against Siroth.
