Ripper a passé plusieurs années en tant que gladiateur rémunéré dans la cité d’Ireth. Tuant ses ennemis pour la joie de la foule hurlante, il acquit gloire et renommée en tant que l’un des guerriers les plus impitoyables et les plus meurtriers de Teleria – jusqu’au jour où il perdit son premier combat dans l’arène.
Brisé et courbé, il découvrit son cou pour recevoir le coup fatal. Mais le coup ne vint jamais – l’elfe qui l’avait battu déclara qu’il était un adversaire digne d’intérêt, épargna sa vie et lui rendit même son arme pour qu’il puisse quitter le champ de bataille avec honneur, tout cela sous les yeux des spectateurs qui se moquaient de lui.
Vraiment impressionné par la bravoure de l’elfe, Ripper lui offrit tout ce qu’il pouvait lui accorder. Personne ne sait avec certitude ce qui a été demandé, mais le lendemain, Ripper a quitté Ireth en direction du Ravin Sombre, et là où le Vagabond apparaît, Ripper le suit bientôt. Certains pensent que c’est là sa mission : rechercher Wanderer et apporter la tête du traître à la reine Eva pour rembourser la dette d’honneur des elfes.
