Scyl of the Drakes is a terrifying force to behold on the battlefield. Her ranseur glistens in the sun as she hisses through the air in brutal movements, her dragonscale cape billowing behind her, Scyl casts an imposing image befitting a true warrior queen. His foes reel and shatter, unable to match his fury, while his allies find themselves invigorated in his presence, their fatigue and pain banished by the blessings of the Phoenix. Once upon a time, Scyl was just a terrified young girl, orphaned by the ruthless cult of the Returning Knights who razed her village and slaughtered its inhabitants. Only Scyl managed to escape, but she was just a child trapped in the Dead Lands, with no hope of survival. She should have died there, but providence intervened. The Followers of the Drake, a troop of dragon-worshipping outcasts and exiles, found Scyl when she had already passed out from dehydration and starvation. They took her back to their lair and healed her. In return, she was sworn into service with the troop, though it soon became apparent that Scyl's talents lay not in cleaning, cooking, and the myriad daily needs of camp, but rather in the art of battle. . The Disciples were few in number, so any new blood was welcome among their warriors, and Scyl had shown herself to be both capable and passionate. She outmatched all her peers and many older, more experienced adversaries when she reached adulthood, quickly taking her place among raiding parties and earning her share of glory in uncompromising attacks on orcs, dead- alive and the Revenant knights who ventured into the Dead Lands. In due time, she rose to the leadership of a small band of young warriors, which grew along with her reputation. Scyl's reckless courage has brought her many victories over the years, but it nearly cost her everything she owned. When a group of Returning Knights were discovered camping in the parched cliffs of Gronfang Ravine, Scyl, blinded by hatred, ordered an attack. She and her warriors were outnumbered, but they had the element of surprise on their side and struck under cover of night. With stones thrown from the top of the cliffs and skirmishers moving among the rocks like vengeful specters, the warriors of Scyl rained death upon the enemy. But the initial confusion faded, and the cultists rushed into the fray with mad fury, overwhelming the Disciples with their numbers and ferocity. Scyla fought in the front ranks, as she always did, even as her warriors fell around her. Though wounded and bruised in this brutal melee, she made her way to the black armor-clad priest who led the force of the Returning Knights. They clashed under the starry skies of Krokhan, and steel met steel. The duel lasted several minutes without either combatant gaining the upper hand, but soon the cultists began to flock to aid their leader. Slaying them all cost Scyl precious time and strength. In the end, she missed a sledgehammer that shattered her ribs and left her gasping on the sand, her opponent preparing to deliver the finishing blow. But Scyl was not a warrior ready to give up, even in the worst of circumstances. At the last moment, she managed to grab her spear and thrust it into the priest's dark heart, sending him back to his twisted master. Silence had fallen over the ravine; apart from Scyl, there was no living soul left among the cliffs, and even she felt the life receding from her body. Vengeance and bitter triumph were her only companions at this moment, but she was not destined to die. Unbeknownst to him, a powerful jinn was watching the battle from afar, and he was so impressed by the young woman's brazen skill that he deigned to appear the day after the massacre. Enveloped in flames, he took on the appearance of a phoenix and spoke words of praise and blessing to Scyl. She received a small fraction of his magic, her wounds mending before her eyes. The spirit vanished, leaving in its wake only an exquisite dragonscale cloak, the last gift he wished to offer to the warrior who had impressed him so much. Scyl spent the day performing the proper funeral rites for her fallen warriors and returned alone to the troop, where she was hailed as a heroine. Her reputation grew, and after many battles, she herself became leader of the Disciples of the Drake. They are still a force to be reckoned with in the Krokhan Wastes to this day, and the servants of Siroth avoid venturing into their territory or risk the wrath of Scyl of the Drakes.
