History of Teela Toisongore
After their defeat at the hands of the Elves and the nascent human kingdoms, the Orcs fled eastward, dividing into warring clans and tribes. Like the barbarian cultures that survived, they do not form a unified society. Some Orcs are ruthless raiders, only too happy to attack the weak.
Others strive to uphold ancient codes of honor and wish to rebuild their people's heritage. Teela—who had not yet earned her nickname “Goremane”—was born into the first type of clan. Life in the lair of raiders and slavers is often brutal and short, and Teela had to learn to survive from her earliest days.
Where the luckiest warriors were pampered and trained, she had to fight for scraps, steal, and treat her wounds with the meager supplies she had. Life was hard. But it made Teela strong. Strong and vicious enough to take down warriors twice her size and earn her place at the head of countless raiding parties.
Her reputation grew with each successful raid, but it was a strange stroke of luck that truly propelled the orc warrior to fame. Her assault group stumbled upon a caravan transporting a scholar from Aravia and easily overpowered the guards. When the terrified elf pleaded for his life, he mentioned a weapon of great importance, something he had apparently been searching for in the first place.
Although not inclined to pity, Teela agreed to free the scholar in exchange for everything he knew. That is how she learned of the Hexdrinker scimitar, an ancient weapon buried somewhere in the far west of the Deadlands. Hoping that the scholar's information was true, Teela led her raiders on a long march across the dunes.
The map recovered from the caravan led them to a burrow that predated the barbarian tribes that controlled the region. It had not been left unguarded, of course, and their attempt to enter it awakened dozens of skeletal warriors. Teela and her orc companions fought tooth and nail and even drove the undead back into the burrow.
It was then that a Revenant spirit burst from its sarcophagus, slaying several brutal orc warriors with contemptuous ease. It would have continued to rage unchecked had it not been for Teela's fierce counterattack. She charged the Revenant, overwhelming it with a barrage of slashes and cuts.
Although she herself had been wounded, the pain did not deter her from the enemy. Teela and the undead warrior exchanged blows, neither gaining a decisive advantage until the orc lost her weapon and was forced to fight like a cornered animal.
Fortunately, she was skilled at this. Throwing herself at the undead creature, Teela managed to break its ancient bones and wrest the scimitar from its deadly grip. Only with the edge of her shadow-covered blade was the spirit finally vanquished, dissipating into nothingness with a final howl of fury.
Teela stood on scattered ashes, her hair turned white as snow, except for her own blood staining the tips. No matter how hard she tried, the dirty crimson would not wash out. The scimitar possessed many powerful enchantments that allowed her to weaken her enemies and even allow her allies to feed on the life force stolen by the blade. With such a powerful weapon in her hands, the legend of Teela Goremane truly began.
