History of Tormin the Cold (Tormin the cold)

There are many songs about Tormin the King's Hammer, Tormin Orcsbane, Tormin the Blacksmith. Of his exploits and his bravery, of his cunning and wit, and of his loyalty. A hero of a bygone era, he had been considered by some skeptical scholars to be merely a fantasy of dwarf folklore – a generalized character whose traits were borrowed from several historical figures, which explained the long list of his titles. But in reality, Tormin did exist, and accounts of his adventures often contain some truth. Born to a lowly blacksmith – as is often the case with the Children of Stone, who revere the art of metalworking – Tormin began learning the trade as soon as he was strong enough to hold a hammer. . He was talented and strong, but he was hot-blooded and often found himself in conflict with others. It was during one such quarrel that Tormin injured a rival blacksmith's apprentice and was captured by the Jarl's guards. His fate might have been bleak if orc raids hadn't been frequent and troubled the jarl's domain at the time. All able-bodied warriors could be useful against raiders, and so Tormin was faced with a choice: be imprisoned for his crime or conscripted into the militia. He chooses the latter solution. The saga goes on to describe Tormin's service to the Jarl, which spanned a decade and saw him rise from mere foot soldier to trusted sergeant. It is said that he single-handedly defended a narrow bridge across a chasm, fending off dozens of orc warriors. Several orc camps were attacked and razed to the ground, and the raiding bandits killed by the dwarven scouts under his command. His bravery had been enough to get him noticed by the Jarl, and when the king gathered an army to march alongside his human allies, Tormin was called upon as well. Perhaps it was a stroke of luck that brought Tormin to the king's attention when he survived a bloody battle with the undead alone and returned to the main body with a warning that was to follow. prove crucial to ensuring victory. Such resilience and determination was worthy of a true dwarf, and Tormin was placed in the service of the king. A particularly popular story is that Tormin was taken prisoner by Jotuns – a race of giants native to the Mountains of Despair – and used his cunning to escape. He had convinced the jotun leader that he could craft a weapon worthy of such an illustrious leader if given tools and materials to work with. The leader, driven by his lust for power and aware of the dwarves' legendary blacksmithing skills, agreed. Tormin stayed true to his word and used everything he was given to craft a magic hammer of awesome power. But instead of giving it to the Jotuns, he turned it against them. Rimefire's magic – as Tormin had dubbed his weapon – was unleashed and allowed him to take down many enemies, confusing the others and allowing him to flee. Tales of his adventure have inspired countless songs praising the ingenuity of the dwarves and mocking the greed of the jotun leader. Tormin himself served the king for decades, until his sudden disappearance in the frozen north of Teleria. No one knows what exactly he was doing there, or what happened. Some say Tormin was betrayed. Left for dead in a pool of his own icy blood, he swore justice and traded his soul with an evil winter spirit that inhabits the frozen peaks of the Winterlands. Others claim that Tormin chased a mighty Lych Lord, only to be mortally wounded. Only the intervention of Sir Nicholas allowed the dwarven warrior to survive, although the price to be paid was high. Some even deny Tormin's survival, claiming that he perished in the icy wastes, far, far away from mortal eyes, and that neither his remains nor his mighty weapon can ever be found. Yet this old saga was given new life recently, when scouts returned, terrified and frozen, from their mission beyond the Kingdom of the Mountain King. They told of a terrible blizzard that enveloped their party, and of a lone dwarf who came through the storm unscathed, silent and clad in ice armor. He led the scouts from the treacherous mountain to the valleys below, but said not a word to them. More importantly, the stranger wielded a mighty warhammer of silver and ice. Though he vanished without a trace when the task was accomplished, this mysterious benefactor has caught the attention of the dwarf monarch, and new, better-equipped groups are already preparing to venture north to bring home their long lost brother.

Even among the great dwarves of old, whose sagas have echoed in the hewn underground halls for centuries, Tormin, son of Bonur, is a name often hailed more than others. Descended from a humble blacksmith, he had risen to the service of his jarl and was one of the king's champions. His adventures were many, his exploits mighty, and no bard can recount them in one night. But there is one story that always makes the eyes of young adventurers shine. One day, after getting lost in the Mountains of Despair, Tormin was captured by a vicious tribe of Jotuns and forced into forced labor. Despite his great strength, even such a renowned warrior would have stood no chance alone, so Tormin had to rely on his wits and cunning. He promised to make a weapon of great power for the leader of the giants, on the condition that they bring him silver ingots from the depths of the mountain and blocks of frozen aether, which can only be found 'at the top of the highest peaks. Excited by the promise of such liberality, the jotun chief agreed and ordered his tribesmen to deliver whatever his prisoner demanded. Thus, for fifteen days, Tormin sculpted and forged the mythical elements, using all his talent and all his experience. Then, after weeks of grueling labor, he finally held a mighty hammer, the handle of which was as cold as the Void itself. Yet it burned with arcane power, and Tormin had rightly named it: Rimefire. When the jotun leader stepped forward to claim his prize, Tormin seized his chance and struck down his captors! The power of his hammer was such that he felled a dozen giants with one blow and transformed a dozen others into statues of ice. Before the rest of the tribe's warriors reached him, Tormin slammed into the side of the mountain and caused a great avalanche in his flight. It is said that when Tormin disappeared decades later among the rugged peaks of the Mountains of Despair in the far north, Rimefire was also lost. Since that day, countless adventurers have braved the deadly mountain ranges in hopes of finding this legendary weapon. So far, none have succeeded and many have lost their lives. But the promise of glory continues to call brave souls across Teleria…
