History of Vizir Ovelis
Even in a society of scheming dark mages and ruthless assassins, Vizier Ovelis is a man to be feared. A legend among his own kind and unmatched by his peers, he is a blade in the darkness that strikes wherever it will.
Indeed, although he was granted a title of respect and was accepted into the nobility of the Dark Elves, Ovelis has no master other than himself. Even as a young warrior, Ovelis was ambitious and dreamed of rising far above his humble station.
To do so, he ventured far beyond the domain of his people. For years, he sought out mentors and enemies from whom he could learn. For years, he obsessively collected folklore and bits of information that could help him acquire objects of power.
After all, Teleria is a land steeped in ancient magic, where wonders and artifacts from the past are within reach of those who dare to seize them. Finally, fate smiled on Ovelis, and a map came into his possession.
It indicated the location of the tomb of Mairenn, a legendary assassin whose deeds date back to the schism that divided the once-united elven race. Thanks to his cunning, courage, and unwavering determination, Ovelis managed to penetrate the hidden basilica and overcome the many traps it contained.
The "allies" who accompanied him on this adventure perished to the last, but that suited the future vizier perfectly. He had no need to share the glory in this way, nor to have a rival to claim the scimitars of Mairenn that lay in his sarcophagus at the very heart of the complex. Even if the magic used to forge these blades was as volatile as their late mistress was said to be, they were nonetheless formidable.
When Ovelis returned, he did so triumphantly. Armed with his skills, experience, and powerful weapons, he fought his way to the top of Dark Elf society. Many potential rivals were found dead in their seemingly impenetrable domains, killed by poison or by the blade.
There are few accounts of these quarrels, although one terrified slave claimed that his master had been killed by a shapeless shadow that moved without being heard and vanished into thin air once the deed was done. Whether these were the delusions of a wretched man or powerful magic conjured by the blades entrusted to Ovelis, it all remains the stuff of rumor and speculation.
