Story of Wythir the Crowned
In the distant past, a kingdom in the Lost Isles achieved particular notoriety under the reign of a noble human family called the Marone. The Marone sire had made a pact with Siroth, becoming a Demonic Reject, and passed his link with the Shadow God down through the generations. The Marones were all-powerful within their island kingdom, and their reign was considered by most of their subjects to be harsh but just.
When King Marone bore a daughter, the island rejoiced because, in so doing, he had secured the line of succession. He named the child touched by the demon Wythir and swore that she would one day inherit the crown. This did not please the king's brother, Trenchard, who had long coveted the throne for himself.
As was tradition, the king and queen finally passed into Anathraad, leaving Wythir, who had just reached the age of majority, to rule. It was then that Trenchard took action. He usurped Wythir on the day of her coronation and confined her to the dungeons. Now, instead of a crown, she wore chains.
Trenchard thought he'd establish his dominion over the island, but discovered he couldn't do it while Wythir was alive. Many remained loyal to him, so Trenchard decided that simply imprisoning the princess wasn't enough. Grabbing a dagger, he descended into the dungeons to finish the job.
What he didn't know was that, if she was confined, Wythir had contacted Siroth. She asserted that Trenchard was not truly loyal to Anathraad and pleaded for a chance to end his usurpation. In exchange, she swore eternal allegiance to the God of Shadows. Unknowingly, when Trenchard plunged his dagger into Wythir's chest, he was leading the sacrifice of a ceremony that would destroy him.
As the seemingly fatal blow was struck, a dark power surged through Wythir. It broke the first of his bonds, then Trenchard's neck. That day, the Demonic Rejects spread across the island, killing all those loyal to Trenchard, and Wythir's dark coronation was complete. Her head was crowned with a multitude of formidable evil horns and Trenchard's brilliant blue spiritual light, which she was allowed to keep imprisoned for eternity. The knife with which Trenchard sought to kill her remained impaled in her chest, perhaps as a reminder of how close she had come to oblivion, or as eternal testimony to her renewed pact with the Shadow God.
Wythir the Crowned ruled her native island for a very long time, but eventually moved to Anathraad, where she established herself as one of Siroth's favorite disciples. Now in the nude appearance of perpetual youth, she has chosen to play the role of Princess of Anathraad, and has sometimes even declared herself to be Siroth's future heir and heiress. The Shadow God seems amused by this game, pampering Wythir as if she were his daughter and not hesitating to please her, far more than almost any other Demonic Reject, with the possible exception of Cruetraxa, with whom she has a deep, implacable, if often well-concealed, rivalry. Countless high-ranking Demonic Rejects look at Wythir with envy and talk about ways to overthrow her.
If Wythir, like all the Demonic Rejects, intends to play a part in ruling all Teleria when Siroth's dark plans are fully realized, it is said that she particularly covets the Lost Isles. Her ancient kingdom fell long ago, but some of the islanders still retain distant memories of their demonic overlords, and claim that one day they will return. Wythir has every intention of seeing that happen.
When she enters Teleria, Wythir's presence is a great inspiration to many Demonic Rejects, who invest in the graces granted to her by SIroth. They fight hard for the crowned princess, believing that she will grant favors and blessings to those who catch her eye. As for Wythir, she rarely has to lift a finger, but when she does, she flaunts her power, because only a fool would think that strength is lacking in a chosen child of Anathraad. She possesses, in particular, the ability to inflict, with a simple gesture, the pain of the dagger planted in her torso on those who displease her, cutting right into their souls. Perhaps one day she'll remove the physical blade, but it's unlikely to be before she's once again seated on the throne of her island.
