Use of Moonstones in Hogwarts Legacy
Although they can be seen throughout the exploration of the vast world of Hogwarts Legacy, moonstones only become essential ingredients during Main Quest #17, The Room of Requirement, during which the player will have access to his own personal room that he can customize as he wishes.
Customizing this room requires spending a fair amount of Moonstones in exchange for decorative items, which may take some time before you can style the room the way you want.
How to get moonstones?
By accessing the Room of Requirement, you can start changing the look of the room by removing some predefined decorations. You'll get Moonstones by using the Evanesco spell on these decorations, allowing you to make immediate customizations as long as you're specific about what you want.
Unfortunately, this method of obtaining moonstones is limited, so you will have to start exploring the world of Hogwarts Legacy to acquire more. As mentioned above, they can be seen quite regularly outside of Hogwarts and it is possible to acquire them by dislodging them with a well-targeted spell. They are easy to detect due to the unusual shape of their crystals, but you will need to be patient for their mass collection.
To make it easier for you, new Moonstones will respawn after a while in places you've harvested them, allowing you to get the most out of each harvesting area if you're careful to locate them. They also tend to show up in outdoor areas like forests and mountains, and despite the fact that they need to be picked up as soon as they appear, you can amass a large amount of them with much less effort thanks to a better way.
Method of growing moonstones
Farming Moonstones in Hogwarts Legacy is the best way to acquire large amounts of them if you don't want to hunt for them. This method consists in letting them accumulate passively. To start, you'll have to go to Hogsmeade and enter the Tomes and Scrolls shop located at the southern end of the village. There you can buy the Refiner's Material, a handy magic item that creates moonstones every ten minutes. You can place three in the Room of Requirement, but since one costs 1,500 Galleons, you'll need to have gathered 4,500 Galleons to get the most out of them. Once all three Refiner Materials are placed in the Room of Requirement, you will be able to passively obtain Moonstones without having to search for them in the world.
