After completing the quest where players learn how to rescue beasts in the game's main story, they will be offered numerous side quests involving these often gentle and endearing creatures in Hogwarts Legacy.

In keeping with this theme, there's a side quest called A Thief in the Night, which you can access after meeting Sebastian in Feldcroft to set off in search of the last guardian.

It can be triggered in Irondale, where several other Hogwarts Legacy side quests are available, but it only takes place at night and you must speak to a vendor named Padraic Haggarty to begin.

Progress of the side quest A thief in the square in Hogwarts Legacy

Items were stolen from Padraic's shop in the middle of the night, including a precious family heirloom.

To track down the thief, here are the steps to everything you need to do:

You will need to visit Padraic's shop At night, you can of course go to the map screen and use the right stick to speed up time.
As it begins to get dark, you can cast the Revelio spell to see a trail of coins, which will lead you to the thief.
Several Goblin camps are located along the way, but you don't have to defeat them if you're in a hurry to complete the quest. In fact, you canaccelerate while flying on your broom if you don't need to earn more XP or collect coins.
You will then find yourself in the lair of a Niffler, which was not part of the original plan.
So, after retrieving Padraic's treasure by climbing the rocks just above the pile of items stolen by the Niffler, you will have to capture the creature with the capture bagA slightly tricky task, given the irregularities of the surface.

Once you've reclaimed Padraic's family heirloom and captured the magical creature, it's time to back to Irondale to complete your quest!

Irondale is located in the south-east of the Feldcroft region, near the South Sea Bog.

Completing this quest will reward you with 180 XP as well as Niffleur mask which you can use to change your appearance. You can also get a few extra galleons from Padraic if you ask him.
