In August 2020, it was removed from the’App Store and Google Play Store due to a dispute over payments, which sparked a lengthy legal battle.

That chapter is now behind us: the game has returned to the’App Store in the U.S. on May 20, 2025, after nearly five years away, and then on the Google Play Store worldwide on March 19, 2026, and finally on the App Store in most of the remaining countries in May 2026.

In May 2020, Epic Games has officially announced that Fortnite exceeded 350 million registered players across all platforms, with more than 3.2 billion cumulative hours of gameplay in April alone.

This total corresponds to the number of Epic Games accounts created, rather than the number of downloads.

In 2021

Epic Games has not published a new total for Fortnite that year, but Statista's estimates suggested that the game exceeded 400 million users recorded.

This is no longer an estimate: the figure has been confirmed by Epic Games. And since the game returned to mobile app stores, the numbers have started climbing again: on Google Play, the game recorded approximately 5.7 million downloads in the days following its return on March 19, 2026.
