History of Miscreated Monster
It happened many years ago in the town of Arnoc. A talented young mage named Alvano sought to unravel a mystery that had long hypnotized scholars and wizards: the riddle of Creation. Indeed, despite their best efforts, no mortal could reproduce the creation of a soul truly animating a living being. Souls could be manipulated, preserved, and bound to a body in the limbo of unliving death, but never conjured in an artificial vessel. Alvano was an incredibly gifted man, whose intelligence allowed him to study at Arnoc's most prestigious academy despite his humble origins. Affected by the death of his parents, Alvano sought to use his affinity for magic and his knowledge to defeat death once and for all. Alas, despite all his genius, he was also obsessive, unable to see the big picture. Thus, throughout his research, Alvano never questioned his goals or methods. Only the result counted for him. Although his talents weren't enough to turn the ether into living anima, Alvano thought he could take advantage of echoes and shreds. As the bodies resurrected by the necromancers still possessed vestiges of their old skills, he suspected that some form of imprint lingered after the soul's demise. And that these imprints can be forged together to create something new. Thus was born Alvano's morbid obsession with the dead. He spent days and weeks in morgues and cemeteries, observing and, if possible, experimenting with the recently deceased. He ends up developing a ritual of his own. By stitching together pieces of flesh that, in Alvano's mind, resonated most with the "imprints" of the soul, and placing a precious magic gem in place of the heart, he sought to craft a vessel capable of resist the massive force of arcane energy that would be required for the soul to spring forth. He began the ritual at the height of a storm, placing the artificial body in one of the tallest towers in the city, chanting passages from ancient grimoires, and directing the stolen power of lightning that struck the tower's spire. Arcs of electricity erupted from the bound ship, shining brightly as Alvano poured his own magic into the same focus gem. Finally, with a howl of pain and misery, the creature leapt forward and broke the enchanted chains that held it in place. In a moment of trauma and shock, the monster struck savagely and knocked its creator off the raised dais where the ritual was taking place, killing him instantly before staggering off into the streets. Terrified locals speak of horrific massacres and blood flowing in the rivers, but these are just tall tales. The hulking monster sent panic to all who crossed its path, though few dared to walk through the city in the midst of the storm, and none of them were foolish enough to approach an enraged monstrosity. which unleashed towards the nearest gates. She seriously injured several guards who tried to block her way, then dashed off into the wilderness outside. Since that day, the creature has hardly been seen. Tavellers sometimes speak of a misshapen giant running through forests and fields at dusk, but so far no one has been able to say for sure what happened to Alvano's ambitious creation, or even whether he had managed to give it a soul or whether it was just another undead brought to life by the power of magic.
