Cupid's story

Bards and minstrels have told many tales of love so pure that it transcends death itself. Although it is the subject of many ballads (perhaps too many), the kingdom of Teleria has seen these wonderful tales come to life.

One legend in particular tells of a young girl so beautiful that she caught the jealous eye of an evil sorcerer, servant of the dark will of Siroth. The spells he wove allowed him to enter the girl and trap her in a distant fortress. Fortunately, her faith enabled the girl to free herself and regain her will before the sorcerer's evil plans could be carried out, but she remained a prisoner under threat of imminent death if she did not accept the sorcerer's advances.

But all was not lost, for her betrothed, a noble knight of great renown, took up the challenge. He fought his way through countless dangers and enemies before forcing open the great doors of the dark dungeon. There, the full power of the sorcerer's magic was unleashed upon him. The knight slew hordes of Siroth's servants, ignoring his own wounds and striking down the villain with a single blow of his blessed sword. Although life was rapidly leaving his body, he chose to expend his last ounce of strength to proclaim his love for the girl who was finally free.

It was then that the Arbitrator herself intervened. Although Lumaya could never guide the affairs of mortals, her faithful herald would not allow a heroic act motivated by such pure love to turn into tragedy. She used her power to save the dying knight, but this divine assistance came at a price. Unable to live without her beloved, the young girl did not hesitate to swear allegiance to Lumaya's cause. In return, she and her knight were granted immortal life.

There are many accounts of their subsequent adventures, some contradictory, others bordering on fairy tales. Even their real names have been lost to history, as has any proof that their origins are anything other than legend.

Yet one thing is certain: wherever the mysterious lovers known as Venus and Cupid appear, no darkness can withstand the fires of their passion. Thanks to Venus' magic and Cupid's blade, the two men have saved countless lives. Any warrior who earns the loyalty of these two divine servants will see their strength reinforced by the kind of purity that only love that transcends mortal boundaries can bring.
