Change on the arena

Since the start of the year, we've heard a lot of feedback about the changes to Classic Arena in general and the matchmaking algorithms in particular. That is why we want to shed light on the current state of affairs in this area.

As you may recall, in October 2020, the new matchmaking system was introduced to the classic arena. It consisted of creating a list of opponents with roughly similar account levels and playing strength. Among other things, the new matchmaking system calculates the difference in strength between players when compiling the list.

Although it is not yet perfect, it allows for fair competition in the Bronze and Silver tiers and avoids pairing players with vastly different experience levels in the early stages of the arena. This matchmaking system also helps maintain the difficulty curve of the feature. The difference in power between accounts plays an important role in determining opponent lists in the Bronze and Silver tiers.

However, the Gold tier is the most competitive. It does not filter opponents based on their account power, but uses the current arena ranking as the main criterion. That's why, when you enter the Gold tier, you may find it more difficult to progress, as you will encounter a much wider range of opponents.

In fact, the Gold tier is where the strongest players go, who have more or less perfected the skills of the champions, their equipment and the choice of their allies. This tier should be challenging, and those who manage to reach Gold tier should be prepared to keep fighting strong opponents to stay competitive and stay in tier.

Last fall, you all saw low-level accounts appear in the Gold tier of the Classic Arena, allowing many players to reach Gold relatively easily in a short amount of time. The reason these accounts appeared in the game is that we added more segments to the server, so that the load would be better distributed and the server would feel better during peak activity times.

As a result, low-level accounts began to appear occasionally in all levels (since the algorithms began to take these new segments into account when defining opponents in all levels). However, this was a temporary phenomenon that could not last forever.

We realized at the time that these accounts would disappear from Gold sooner or later. It was more of a deviation than a new order of things. Over time, the weakest accounts were gradually downgraded to lower levels, and today, the Gold level has become as competitive as expected.

Another important issue that we want to address is that of the referee missions, since the classic arena is closely linked to these, as well as many other activities in the game. Looking back, let's recall what the referee missions were. 'arbitrator.

Arbiter is no ordinary Champion; he is a high-level Legendary who has long been considered the ultimate reward in the game. Therefore, the missions should not be too easy to complete.

Nevertheless, we sincerely believe that none of these missions should block your progress toward Arbiter. That's why we are closely monitoring the situation by checking the analyses and data at our disposal to ensure that this is not a “mission impossible.”.

Game moderation

Another thing we want to mention is the newly added moderation tool in the global chat room. We currently have a full team of in-game chat moderators and are not recruiting new moderators at this time. The in-game moderation feature is under development, and we will let you know before an upcoming expansion of the moderating team.

Champion + AI

Finally, we are finalizing the rebalancing of several champions and this rebalancing will be released in one of the next updates. Additionally, we are working on some AI improvements, and if all goes according to plan, they will also be included in the next patch.
