Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG that is exceptionally rich in side content, giving players the opportunity to further improve their in-game skills by participating in the side quests, which are also required to complete the game at 100 %.
These side quests are given by NPCs other than the professors who teach spells in exchange for the main quests. They each have their level of difficulty, with a wide variety of missions to offer players.
In the side quest called The Story of Roland Duchêne, you will be contacted by Adélaïde Duchêne, a Hufflepuff student who sends you an express owl to express her concerns and ask you to help calm her down by coming to see her in Transfiguration classroom yard.

The steps to complete the side quest: The story of Roland Duchêne in Hogwarts Legacy
This quest consists of solving a little riddle to find and save Adelaide's uncle. It is triggered when you have completed the game play on Urtkot's Helm.
As soon as you receive the Adelaide express owl, you will meet her at the indicated place, which you can go to by the flame in the central hall, in the courtyard of the Transfiguration classroom. She will tell you about her concerns about her uncle, a metal trader, embroiled in a dubious affair with Ranrok Loyalists, and asks for your help in finding him. Here is how you should proceed.
Eliminate the enemy camp to get a lead
To get to Roland Duchêne's encampment, you can fast travel to Jackdaw's Tomb and then fly on your Broomstick in Hogwarts Legacy to reach it. Ranrok loyalists seem to have raided the camp and Adelaide's uncle doesn't seem to be around. You can either confront the Goblins or fight them unnoticed with the Disillusion spell.
Once you've eliminated them, cast Revelio to reveal the hidden clues. You will thus discover the Journal and the Map of Roland Duchêne, which indicate the location of the business.
Solve the map puzzle
When you look at the map, you'll notice it's full of landmarks you can follow to reach the milking spot where Adelaide's uncle is being held, which appears to be connected to the camp by a river.
To reach the trading location immediately, you can fast travel to the Ruins of Korrow Floo Flame and enter the ruins after defeating the Goblin horde. If you haven't activated this Flame yet, you can take your Broom and follow the direction southwest of the camp through the river to reach the ruins.
Save Roland Duchêne from the ruins
Here's how to find Adelaide's uncle:
- Go down the stairs to fight two Goblins.
- Turn right and go through the destroyed walls.
- Defeat the enemies in the furnace room.
- Go right and down the stairs to the barrel room.
- Head left into the tunnel.
- Fight other Goblins.
- Go to the cell located at the end of the corridor, you will find Roland Duchêne there.
Then you have to find Roland Duchêne's wand and give it to him, so he can get out of his cell. To get the wand:
- Return to the Furnace Room.
- Go up the stairs near the round door.
- Turn left when you come to a crossroads.
- Use any fire spell (Incendio or Confringo) to light the furnace.
- Open the round door and defeat all the goblins inside.
- Enter the room on the right to get Roland Duchêne's wand.
After getting the wand, you can return it to Mr. Duchêne so he can break free from his cell. You will be rewarded with a crafted necklace and 180 XP for completing this quest.
