Fast & Furious currently has Top 10 Movies, a spin-off, and two short films. To watch everything in the right order, you have two options: the’output order at the movies or the’chronological order in history.
When it comes to the *Fast and Furious* movies in order, the only real catch is Tokyo Drift, which debuted at No. 3 in 2006 but which unfolds chronologically between the 6th and 7th sections of the saga.
How to watch Fast and Furious
There are two possible approaches. The first is the’output order, is the most natural way to discover the saga. The second, the’chronological order, is the most narratively coherent, especially once you're already familiar with the franchise.

The main films
The Fast and The Furious (2001)
The first installment of the saga, directed by Rob Cohen and inspired by the article Racer X by the journalist Ken Li, published in the magazine Vibe.
The movie immerses you in the world of street racing at Los Angeles. Dominic Toretto, a former convict, rules the roost there with his gang, whom he considers his family.
Brian O’Conner, a young cop with a passion for cars, is tasked with going undercover in the group, which is suspected of truck heists. Little by little, he forms a strong bond with this family and eventually sides with them.
He even opposes his colleagues in order to protect Dom against the rival team from Johnny Tran. In the end, he leaves Dom to escape, as a gesture of friendship, even though his true identity is now known.
2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
Directed by John Singleton, this second installment picks up where Brian hunted by the police and exiled to Miami, where he made a name for himself in nighttime street races.
The FBI tracks him down and offers him a deal: clear one's criminal record on a risky mission. His target: Carter Verone (Cole Hauser), a businessman suspected of money laundering.
Brian turns to his childhood friend Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) and is assisted by the undercover police officer Monica Fuentes (Eva Mendes). The duo successfully completed their mission and pocketed a handsome reward.
Fast and Furious : Tokyo Drift (2006)
Please note that this third installment takes place chronologically between the 6th and 7th movies in the series. After Los Angeles and Miami, the stock is heading toward Tokyo.
In it, we follow Sean Boswell, a car enthusiast, placed under his father's guardianship to avoid prison after an accident. At the scene, Twinkie introduces him to the underground world of drifting.
Sean quickly comes into conflict with Takashi, nicknamed DK to Drift King and a member of the Yakuza. He also meets Han, a mentor who introduced him to drifting and turned him into a real driver.
Fast and Furious 4 (2009)
Directed by Justin Lin, this fourth installment marks the return of the original cast, who was absent from the third installment.
The story takes place five years after the first movie. Brian O’Conner became an FBI agent, while Dom Toretto is still on the run. Despite their past, the two men join forces against Arturo Braga, a drug lord responsible for the death of Letty.
This mission brings us closer together Brian of Mia, the sister of Dom. Dom is ultimately sentenced to 25 years in prison, before being released by Brian and Mia during his transfer.
Fast and Furious 5 (2011)
Fast & Furious 5 picks up right after the escape from Dom, Mia and Brian. Management Rio, where they must pull off one last success to clear their names and regain their freedom.
An opportunity to put together an XXL team: Roman Pearce, Tej Parker, Vince, Han and Gisele Yashar. Their target is Hernan Reyes, a corrupt businessman.
The task becomes more complicated when the’federal agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) sets out in pursuit of them. In the end, though, he gives the gang a break. Dom, for her part, begins a relationship with Elena Neves, the partner of Hobbs.
Fast and Furious 6 (2013)
Still directed by Justin Lin and written by Chris Morgan, this sixth installment returns with Dom, Brian and their accomplices, scattered to the four corners of the world, enjoying the spoils of their latest heist.
This life on the run takes its toll on Mia and Brian, now parents. Hobbs then calls on the team to face Owen Shaw and his band of mercenaries, in exchange for a normal life.
Between spectacular stunts and breakneck chases, A missing character reappears and throws a wrench in the plans of Dom.
Fast and Furious 7 (2015)
This seventh installment, written by Chris Morgan and directed by James Wan, is also the latest movie starring Paul Walker, who died tragically in a car accident before filming was completed.
The team is facing Deckard Shaw, the brother of’Owen Shaw, determined to get revenge. The film ends with a moving tribute to Paul Walker, which has become one of the most memorable moments in the entire franchise.
Fast and Furious 8 (2017)
Directed by F. Gary Gray, this eighth installment introduces Cipher (Charlize Theron), a terrorist hacker who manipulates Dom and drives him to betray his family.
For the first time in the saga, Dominic Toretto turns against his team. Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, though they are enemies, must form an alliance to bring him back to the right side. The film ends with the birth of the son of Dom and Elena.
Fast and Furious 9 (2021)
The ninth film in the series, once again directed by Justin Lin. The Big Comeback: Han, whom fans had believed to be dead since Tokyo Drift, comes back to life.
The main antagonist is Jakob Toretto (John Cena), the hidden brother of Dom, manipulated by the mysterious Otto to seize a digital weapon called Ares. The saga takes on an even more international scope, with scenes set as far away as outer space.
Fast & Furious X (2023)
The tenth main film in the franchise, directed by Louis Leterrier. This time, the threat comes from Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa), son of the drug baron Hernan Reyes killed off in the fifth movie.
Dante is seeking revenge against Dom and his entire family. The story takes place between Rome, Londres and South America. Cipher, who was a sworn enemy in previous installments, finds herself this time on the side of Dom. The movie ends on a cliffhanger, leaving us waiting Fast X: Part 2.
The Spin-Off and the Short Films
Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
The first spin-off in the series, centered on the unlikely duo formed by Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) And Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham). The two sworn enemies must team up to face a common threat.
Short Films
- Turbo-Charged Prelude (2003): a short film that serves as a bridge between the first film and 2 Fast 2 Furious, by following the trail of Brian after the events of the first installment.
- Los Bandoleros (2009): a short film in which Vin Diesel resumes his role as Dom. It serves as a prelude to the fourth film and shows the activities of Dom in the Dominican Republic.
Upcoming Fast & Furious Movies
The saga isn't over yet. Two projects are officially underway.
- Fast X: Part 2 : the direct continuation of Fast X, scheduled for release in 2026.
- Hobbs & Reyes : a second spin-off centered on Luke Hobbs, whose release date has not yet been confirmed.
