To improve the production line in Valheim, simply build extensions near it: each new structure automatically increases its level.
Here is the order to follow: Level 2 with the Chopping Block, Level 3 with the Tanning Stand, Level 4 with the Adze, and Level 5 with the Tool Rack. The maximum level for the table is therefore 5.
This manufacturing table is the central element of crafting in this survival game: it allows you to craft weapons, gear, and structures, as well as upgrade them. As your crafting level increases, you’ll unlock new recipes and higher-quality items.
In this guide, we'll walk you through the resources you'll need and the steps to take to go from Level 1 to the maximum level.
Where can you see the level of your production table?
To see the level of the crafting table, move closer to the structure and look at the star-shaped icon displayed on the right side of the interface. The number inside indicates the workbench’s level: in the example below, the star contains a 3, so our workbench is at level 3.
As soon as you build a new expansion within range, the number automatically increases and unlocks new crafting recipes.
How to upgrade crafting table to level 2?
To advance to Level 2, build a Chopping Block (Chopping Block) next to the table. Important: Each expansion must be placed within the table's range; otherwise, the level will not increase. This rule applies to all subsequent upgrades.
Required resources:
- 10 pieces of wood (by cutting down trees with an axe)
- 10 flints (to be collected at the water's edge, on the riverbanks)

How to upgrade crafting table to level 3?
To advance to Level 3, build a Tanning medium (Tanning Rack) near the table. Before you can unlock this recipe, you'll need to kill a deer to obtain deer hides. These animals can be found in meadows and at the edge of the forest.
Required resources:
- 10 wood
- 15 flint
- 20 scraps of leather
- 5 deer hides

How to upgrade crafting table to level 4?
To advance to Level 4, build a Adze near the table. The recipe calls for 10 pieces of precious wood (harvested from birch and oak trees) and 3 ingots of bronze. To make bronze, smelt copper and tin at the forge: you'll find these ores in the Black Forest.
Required resources:
- 10 precious woods
- 3 bronze ingots
How to upgrade crafting table to level 5?
To reach the maximum level, build a tool rack next to the table. Once it's in place, you won't be able to upgrade the workbench beyond this level.
Required resources:
- 4 iron
- 10 precious woods
- 4 obsidian (to be mined in the high-altitude snowy biome)
