How does the film Fair Play end?

Fair play has reached its peak following Luke's revelation that he has slept with Emily. He presents this information as an inappropriate relationship, even though they're already engaged. Except no one at the office has been paying attention. Emily is confronted by Luke at their engagement party.

Their argument led to consensual sex at first. But things take an unexpected turn when Luke ignores Emily's pleas to stop. Luke decides toattack Emily and goes away.

The next morning, Emily returns to their apartment. She finds Luke in the living room with all his things. He tells her he's moving to San Francisco and breaks up with Emily. Before leaving her, Emily asks Luke to apologize and take responsibility about the assault. Luke refuses, and in a fit of rage, Emily grabs a kitchen knife and cuts Luke's arm.

In the film's final moments, Emily jumps over Luke and demands an apology. Luke breaks down and says, "I'm nothing.

Emily's response was chilling: "Now wipe the blood off my floor and get out, I'm done with you now.". The scene was clearly brutal, forcing Luke to confront his masculinity and reflect on how he's changed.

After the coveted promotion, Luke wants to sabotage his partnership with Emily. He wants his family's support and questions his partner's success. To do this, he makes her doubt her talent. For her part, Emily wants earn respect, and excuses sexist behavior of her male colleagues.

In an interview with Esquire, director Domont explained that she wanted to highlight toxic masculinity and reveal that it affects both men and women. In these words, she emphasizes:

"One of the reasons I wrote the first draft was to sound the alarm.

According to this author and director, the toxic masculinity is something we need to talk about. It's a problem that everyone faces.

A mindset that needs to change

According to Domont, Fair Play is about showing how dangerous gender roles can be. It's a societal fact that needs to change. Moreover, she declares:

"Many of us want to join a modern, feminist society, but we're still brought up with traditional ideals of masculinity".
