Ce qui fait le succès de sex education, c’est le fait que le sex n’est pas présenté comme un sujet tabou ou vulgaire.
Au contraire, on en parle de manière naturelle et sans complexe. En outre, il n’y a pas que le sexe qui est mis en avant dans cette série Netflix, il y a également un mélange de culture, zéro racisme, sans discrimination de genre, ou de physique. Nous remarquons plutôt le contraire, la classe sociale, l’orientation sexuelle, le poids ou la couleur de peau importent peu, tout le monde est sur un pied d’égalité.

Synopsis of the series sex education
Une adolescente rebelle qui a choisi de vivre seule, sans ses parents, et avec des soucis de revenus, réussit à convaincre un de ses amis de lycée à monter une clinique orientée vers la thérapie sexuelle, au sein même du lycée. Fils d’une thérapeute réputée, cet adolescent est très bien informé sur l’éducation sexuelle, bien qu’il ait lui-même un blocage.
Encore vierge, le jeune homme ne se masturbe même pas, ce qui est pourtant une pratique tout à fait naturelle chez les adolescents. Bien sûr, les consultations sont clandestines, mais permettent à plusieurs jeunes de surmonter les problèmes sexuels qu’ils rencontrent, et leur permet d’en parler librement. L’idée est finalement ingénieuse et d’une précieuse aide pour ces adolescents, parfois désemparés.

Far from clichés and prejudices
La série Netflix va à l’encontre des clichés. Dans la série, l’histoire met en avant le fait que la beauté n’est pas définie par un physique standardisé, comme être mince, grande, et élancée, ou que seules les jolies femmes peuvent procurer de vrai plaisir à un homme.
Here, we meet people of impressive stature, with active and fulfilling sex lives. Among other things, sex education is sexually and culturally diverse, and everyone is welcome.
An exceptional mix of cultures
La couleur de peau, le pays d’origine, ou le statut social importe peu dans la série. Les personnages sont variés, ce qui apporte beaucoup d’originalité à sex education.
Bien que l’intitulé mette en avant le sexe, l’éducation n’en ait pas moins considéré, ce qui fait un mélange parfait des traits de personnage. Différents caractères se mélangent pour finalement démontrer que c’est la différence qui fait la richesse.
A diverse character choice
In sex education, we have as main characters teenagers and their parents who reveal over the course of the episodes character traits that are very different from each other. We can cite among others:
- Otis: reserved and shy teenager, he does not accept the fact that his mother is a reputable sexologist. The young Otis however has great capacities that he himself ignores that of helping people. Once he begins to discover this talent, he gains self-confidence, and enjoys this new role;
- Maeve: rebellious, intelligent, and strong of character, she does not care about the eyes of others and lives without being modeled on the image of her friends. Admittedly, she is sarcastic, but Maeva is someone who is empathetic. The idea for the practice came from her, after catching Otis helping a friend with these sexual issues. Killing two birds with one stone, the consultations made by Otis allow him to earn money;
- Eric: Otis' best friend. This character loves life and overflows with joie de vivre. African by birth, he is also a believer, but with a homosexual inclination;
- Aimee: the popular high school girl. Maeve and Aimée are quite close, but see each other in secret because, by Maeva's reputation, she is far from being the one who is frequentable. To keep her image, she therefore does not display her friendship with Maeve;
- Jackson: the high school star boy is in love with Maeve, and asks for help and advice from Otis, to seduce her. For the beauty, Jackson is only a sex friend, but he wants more;
- Adam: the bully. Adam hides under his sure superior and his brutality, a suffering and a frustration which comes to him from his family environment. Over the episodes, he manages to pull it all together and change little by little, to become a respectful and responsible young man. Son of the headmaster, he undergoes a lot of stress, which earned him an erection problem. Thanks to this, Adam is Otis and Maeve's first customer.
These young people play the main roles in the series. Everyone has their own way, they bring a new way of approaching taboos and overcoming them. The series is mainly aimed at young people and teenagers, but adults also find something to their liking.
