Since its inception, Illustrator has been considered one of Adobe's finest programs. It is remarkably well known for its vector graphics and its ease of use compared with other image and text processing programs. Illustrator does, however, require a certain hardware configuration to run smoothly. Not to mention the plug-ins installed and updates recommended by the designer, there are times when this software slows down without being disturbed by other background tasks.
If you have Illustrator and are experiencing the same problem, this article will help you to optimize the performance of your software, following the methods listed below.
Tip number 1: Keep up to date
Many users seem reluctant to upgrade their usual software for fear of losing work speed when installing the new version. This reluctance is explained by various changes in the arrangement of interfaces and shortcuts, some people choose to keep the version they're familiar with.
On the other hand, updates are designed to correct any slowdowns encountered by software users. In addition, they are designed to meet various demands of users, such as the redesign of skins and above all the additional functionalities.
Tip number 2: Minimize startup programs
We advise you to disable the automatic start of software that uses too much RAM. To do this :
- Close all running applications.
- Open Windows Explorer by pressing "Windows+E", then go to
- (OSDisk\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp) and transfer all shortcuts and application icons present there to another location.
- Restart the computer to see how the changes have been applied.
You can alsostop manually tasks that start automatically on startup in :
- Restart Windows. Once restarted, go to Task Manager by pressing "Ctrl+Shift+Escape".
- Entering the “Processes” section, then select the desired application and click on “Stop the process” or “End task”.
Tip number 3: Delete thumbnails and hide layers
This method allows you toventilate and design your workspace and lighten your RAM on display processing. The airier your workspace, the faster Illustrator responds to your actions. Hide your layer by going to the list of layers. Next to the name of each layer you've created, you'll find an icon in the shape of an eye.
As for the vignettes, reduce them as follows:
- Go to the menu,
- Then press "Layers",
- Choose "Panel options
- Reduce the number of thumbnails.
You can also do this simply by accessing the "Layers floating on the side of your worktop.
Tip number 4: Use low-resolution mode
This is the most commonly used technique, but we're still including it in this list for those who aren't familiar with it. We tend to import quality images into our project. If they are EPS images, Illustrator may slow down and refresh more slowly during editing due to the resolution of the images. Here's the solution:
- Go to "Modify",
- Then select "Preferences
- Click on "File management and clipboard".
- Finally, continue on "Use a low resolution proxy for linked EPS files" and confirm with "Ok"
