Moderator (mod) commands on Twitch

Here are all the commands for moderating a chat Twitch in July 2026. Native commands are typed directly into the chat using a slash (/). Replace <pseudo> by the name of the user in question.

These native commands can be used directly in the chat with a /. They cover most of the actions a moderator needs to take to manage users and keep a stream orderly.

Just a quick reminder: <pseudo> refers to the user you want to take action against (ban, timeout, or other). Replace it with the person's name.

Basic Moderation Commands

Here are the commands you use every day to manage your chat Twitch and keep your community healthy. They allow moderators to manage users directly from the chat, without having to go through the dashboard.

• Add a moderator on your stream: /mod <pseudo>
• Remove a mode: /unmod <pseudo>
• See the list of moderators: /mods
• Upgrade a viewer to VIP status: /vip <pseudo>
• Remove the VIP: /unvip <pseudo>
• See the list of VIPs: /vips
• Ban a user from the channel (He will no longer be able to access your live content): /ban <pseudo>. You can also specify a reason: /ban <pseudo> <motif>
• Make a timeout (temporary ban): /timeout <pseudo> <temps en secondes> <motif>. A simple /timeout <pseudo> Sets the default time to 10 minutes.
• Lift a ban using the unban command: /unban <pseudo>
• Slow down the interval between messages To limit spam: /slow <secondes>. If no value is specified, the default timeout is 120 seconds, so be sure to specify a few seconds. To disable slow mode: /slowoff
• Require users to Follow your channel before you speak : /followers <temps>. Add m For the minutes, h As for the hours, d for the days, w for the week, mo for the month. One minute equals /followers 1m.
• Turn off this followers mode (especially useful if you're getting spammed by bots in your chat): /followersoff
• Allow only paying subscribers To type in the chat: /subscribers. Moderators can still speak.
• Turn off "Subscribers Only" mode : /subscribersoff. All users will be able to participate again.
• Grooming the Cat and delete all displayed messages: /clear
• Put your cat in emotes-only mode : /emoteonly
• Turn off Emote Mode : /emoteonlyoff

Useful Commands for Streamers

Some actions are restricted to the streamer's account. Others depend on the permissions you grant your moderators in the channel settings.

• Place a marker in your live stream to find a key moment in the VOD: /marker <description>
• Send a private message to a user from the chat : /w <pseudo> <message>

How to Place Ads on Twitch ?

You can run an ad using this command, specifying the duration in seconds.

/commercial <30|60|90|120|150|180>

⚠️ Twitch has gradually restricted this access. A moderator can therefore only run an ad if the streamer has granted them the necessary permissions. The streamer, however, still has the option to post their own ads via the chat or the dashboard.

What commands can I use to help another streamer?

The "raid" feature lets you send your viewers to another live stream. It's the main way to support another streamer at the end of your live stream.

• Make a raid to another channel with your viewers: /raid <pseudo du streamer>
• Cancel the raid Before its launch: /unraid

📌 Orders /host and /unhost no longer work. Twitch removed them in October 2022. To support another streamer and send your community to their stream, use the "raid" feature from now on.

Does the /chant command still exist?

Nope. The Slogan function (command /chant, also known as Chants) was disabled by Twitch in February 2022 and has not been reintroduced since. So there's no point in using it—it no longer appears in the chat.

Command to make a prediction or conduct a poll on Twitch

In addition to moderation tools, certain commands can be used to engage your community during a live stream. You can start a prediction or a poll to get your viewers involved during the stream.

• To make a prediction, type the command: /prediction

This is a very useful command for channel moderators Twitch. Here's how it works:

1. Go to “Start the prediction” and give it a name (45 characters maximum). You can only provide two answers, each limited to 25 characters.
2. Next, choose a time frame for the prediction.

Be careful when you start the prediction. There's a 15- to 25-second warning at the beginning in the chat. So even one minute might be too short for some users.

• To take a survey: /poll

Next, select the poll questions and answers. You can set token values or bits to allow multiple votes. Choose a time period, then click "Submit." The poll will automatically appear to your audience.

Streamlabs and bots to make moderation easier on Twitch

Some moderator commands require frequent repetition: a bot automates them for you. You save time and keep the chat going Twitch clear, even when the live broadcast gets out of hand.

⌛ Each bot takes just a few minutes to set up: just log in to your account Twitch, assign it the moderator role, then enable the desired commands. This way, you can let the bot handle repetitive tasks and focus your attention on the live content.

Bot Commands Nightbot

Nightbot is a bot you can install to make it easier to moderate the chat. Its commands begin with ! instead of /.

• Change your title in the chat: !title
• Change the name of the game you're playing: !game
• Allow a link for a user: if you've blocked links, !allowed allows it to send just ONE link (be careful—other bots might still ban it).
• If you've enabled song requests, your viewers can send: !songs request
• View a user's follow time: !fc for yours, !fc for someone else's.

Commands for music always begin with !songs. Here is the list:

• !current songs : see contemporary music
• !delete songs : Stop the currently playing music
• !song list : see the list of songs
• !skip songs : Skip to the next song
• !song volume : adjust the volume
• !songs pause : Pause the music
• !play songs : Play the music if it isn't already playing

Bot Commands Wizebot

Wizebot is another moderation bot that you can link to your account Twitch. Most of its commands are the same as those in Twitch : Just replace the / by a !.

• To view the stream's uptime: !uptime (and !uptimeg (to find out where you're from in the first place)
